Why Germany?? They're as welcoming and liberal as anywhere. (Let's not turn this in to a history thread).

Because they are welcoming and liberal they are a soft and easy target.

Isn't admitting he's an Afghan now being investigated by counter terrorism police going to jeopardise the trial?

I don't see how it could jeopardise a trial, it's a statement of fact re his nationality.

Absolutley awful event in and of itself, but the timing with the German state elections in 10 days or so couldn't be worse either. It's going to put immigration and fear right back on the top of the agenda now, if it was even off it in the first place.

It was a union rally organised to demonstrate for better pay and conditions for childcare workers (who are on strike).

There were children in the crowd.

Also, Munich is hosting a defence summit about Ukraine tomorrow in Hotel Bayerischer Hof which is under 1 mile from the scene.

Zelensky will be there, as will American VP JD Vance and US secretary of state Marco Rubio.

Feasible that this incident is tangentally related.

Explain to me why that's an issue? Immigration and fear should be top of the agenda!

I guess because some people think it is helping the AfD.

Absolutley astonishing that the first thing he's worried about after this horrendous terrorist attack are people voting for an anti immigration party! Him and his ilk are a large part of this problem.

Issue is the extremes in all ways are the problem. Including:
- people who carry out these acts.
- people who claim there is no issue at all to address.
- people who declare all immigration or asylum bad as a result of such acts.

None of these groups are going to meaningfully contribute to a sensible solution, it’s grey as always. Which is where the afd or similar having some votes may be useful, to force a discussion but them gaining power wouldn’t help as it’s just an extreme viewpoint.

There needs to be a sensible grown up discussion around the way forward. Almost certainly involving lower levels of migration but not looking like none. Certainly also addressing integration of people.

Although we can’t be too critical of groups of immigrants living in the same place with each other - look at Spain with all the British expats and lack of integration by many. It’s may be considered different in that they generally just keep to themselves but so do the majority of migrants into Germany/UK etc.

This is always dragged up.

The difference is that British expats love Spain and love the Spanish people.

A very big difference.
