Cannot stand the Metro and never read it when I commuted at rush-hour but this 'story' popped up today and realised what total bks it actually is.

https://metro.co.uk/2025/03/31/barebackers-commute...

So people sitting there minding their own business, not playing their ste music loudly, or speaking loudly on their phones, or eating stinking food, or staring at their phones are the worst kind of commuter? confusedlaugh

Not letting people off the train before you get on sat at number four, while prematurely getting ready to alight took the number three spot. People who sit with their legs spread were his second most hated commuter stereotype, just behind barebackers.

Wow! I'm the worst kind of train traveller. frown

I thought that too but turns out it's normal people with sufficient imagination not to need continuous third-party stimulation.

I've no idea what that means, but "Barebacking" on a train is the equivalent of Rawdogging a flight.

??? Life must be pretty good if people are annoyed with others who aren't on their phones. Staring at others not good of course but nothing like a bit of mindfulness watching the world go by.

A newspaper, funded purely by advertising, attempting to shame people into reading their newspaper in order to keep as many eyes on those adverts for as long as possible? Surely not. Tell me it ain't so.

What a load of old st.

Tbh I don't like the setup of tube and overground where the seat placement means you inadvertently make contact with others without meaning to.

Females may consider this 'intrusive staring' when it could just be someone zoned out.

Terms change with time, was shocked last year when 'raw dogging for hours' on planes went viral before realising the meaning had changed and it just meant not using earphones on a flight.

Oh, it's still the same term, it started getting used in memes in the context of things like going to work without your morning coffee, basically anything to do with dealing with normal life without anything to take the edge off.

Which is where the "flight without distraction or entertainment" use came from.

But the origins of it meaning unprotected sex are unchanged, and people using it in the wild without being aware of that original meaning just makes it funnier.

You've just explained something that didn't make sense by using another term that doesn't make sense. At least to me. laugh

Next time you are on a train or bus, ask a fellow passenger.

Haven't been on either for at least 25 years. So I don't know what kind of stuff goes on these days.

The rise of click-bait, non-story, lazy "journalism".

You've been missing out - GWR have been giving away free champagne and canapes to all passengers plus a complementary goody bag stuffed with £20 notes since at least 2015, and as for the Stagecoach "Bang" Bus service, well.....
