Yes folks, our government is introducing the compulsory national service for us in the UK.

If you think you're going to introduce a law which takes my children away from me only to train them up so that they will then become murderers - GO fk YOURSELVES

I will raise my children up the way I want them to be raised. I DO NOT want this shower of st to train them up to be KILLERS have you got me?? DO YOU UNDERSTAND?

I bet they will spin it as being patriotic.
At least 50 hours service, more like 2years is what they really mean.

Cameron thought of it first

Although taking "part in approved local projects - such as refurbishing community centres, visiting the elderly and helping charities" is hardly teaching them to murder...

mark my words, they initially need to sell the idea to the public then after its all setup and running, thats when the show begins.

Sounds like a good idea to me. The less feral teenagers are probably already doing it through youth groups or Duke of Edinburgh's award type schemes anyway, and anything that gets the remaining idlers off of the streets and doing something useful with their time has got to be a good thing surely?

Me too - though would need more information.

I think the OP has a bit of a bee in his bonnet about governments/usa. Strikes me as a bit odd that they would join a motoring forum, and not submit any posts about motoring - at a glance all posts appear to be politics based.

But they will come back trained and ready to commit new levels of petty crime in such an organised way that the police won't have a hope of catching them!

50 WHOLE HOURS?!?!?! That's over a week's work! What will the poor little'uns do? I personally think introducing community work into the curriculum is a great idea - could be included in all different subjects, business studies, sociology, geography etc...

Why did National Service stop ? My granfather said it was the best thing ever - 2(?) years in the Amry would do young people so much good. I am 28 and would have liked to do at least a year of 'training' before university.

A friend from Uni is Finnish - due to the country's low population all teenage lads do national service - camping/survival/weaponary/etc sounds like fun to me - all food/lodging paid for.

Because not everyone wanted to be there and the Forces didn't want them either. The Forces have changed significantly since the end of National Service - they are now a highly trained and equipped (when the government see fit to equip them anyway!) professional force. They'd much rather spend their resources (not just financial but also manpower and time etc) on their operations such as Afghanistan rather than looking after 18 year old brats for 2 years.

WTF? Oh sure, God forbid we offer them some exposure to service for one's country & others. As I recall, this was more prominent in the past....no comparison, past generations were better people.

Finally!!!! someone seems to be thinking straight. All we need to do is watch how they implement a simple idea and mess it all up!

It's a GREAT idea!

Get the feral little twunts off the streets - I KNOW there's exceptions - and teach them some discipline and respect for themselves and others. If the families can't/won't do it - and lets face it, they don't.... It works alsewhere, why not here?

Any 18 - 24 year old who willingly sits watching the Jeremy Kyle show and has a 'Greggs the Baker' loyalty card should be immediately introduced to the scheme. smile

From what I heard this is hardly national service as we know it but simply community service of some kind for 25 hours a year for two years. Wow, one hour every other week, that'll keep the scrotes off the streets......

OP seems to be a bit of a muppet, even the link he gave mentions community service, nothing about guns or killing people, unless it is death by shovel or rake smile

if the local chavs had to clean up their mess that would be a result, might even stop them making it in the first place

"National Youth Service"

Didnt Hitler have one of those? Called them the Hitler Youth I believe....is that where Brown is looking for inspiration these days then? Doesnt suprise me. He does come across as a bit of a fascist dictator! Won't be long now until we see Brown dissolve parliament and become dictator in order to protect us from the evil terrorists!

Personallyt I fear a random attack from some feral scrotes who haven't learned anything good from their parents more than I fear any terrorist bomb in the UK.

Anything that helps prevent said layabout, dole-scrounging, feral scrotes from presenting such danger is IMHO a good thing, up to and including sterilisation programmes.

They'll end up in care if you think that.
