So... Calais, Dunkerque and Boulogne are all blocked by Frog fishermen demanding yet more increases in fishing quotas from the EU, after a 30% hike the last time they pulled this cunning stunt.

I'm going to Le Mans this weekend and am just lucky that this year is the first year we are going via Portsmouth so hopefully won't be affected.

Twunts.

It will be called off Friday. It always is, to let their countrymen home for the weekend.

French court orders the fishermen to stop the blockade under the threat of heavy fines etc. Not sure how efficiently they'll get around to enforcing them though.

They won't, the gendarmerie national is allied to their union.

Exactly.

Fair play to them I say. We' are bhing because it's affecting us, but to be honest they are standing up for themselves!!

I have nothing but support for them! Makes me wonder since when did the French have more balls than England....because that's what I'm seeing. The fact they aren't happy with their government and are doing something about it is something to be admired if you ask me.

Still.....they'll probably get something....and we'll keep taking our tax rises.

think the whole thing is about over fishing, when the french have removed even the bsby fish from the seas and there is nothing left, what will they fish next ?

read some report about the tuna stocks crashing, so the EU awarded themselves 47% over what the experts reckoned was safe, give it a few years and the only tuna will be what is already in the cans and freezers

They'll go on strike, demanding more fish.

Some fishermen seem to be oblivious to the harsh reality that there's a finite amount of fish you can catch this year and still have fish to catch next year.

Yet they get quotas for fish which means any other species caught has to be thrown back (usually DEAD) thus destroying tonnes of good edible fish every day. EU regulations are feckin stupid....
We should declare a 250 mile zone (as did the canadians) where only GB boats can fish and that with sensible rules... no spanish/french/soviet illegals who don't even get checked in their home ports when they land everything they've caught legally or otherwise

Pretty much nail on the head there SB yes

Imagine what would happen if we tried to do the same thing in the UK?
The recent protests and police reaction to them, gives us an insight.

I think the French should be applauded for any direct action they take against their government. It is something that the British have lost, which is why we are now the sthole of Europe, which is going to get much worse over the next few years.
I just hope that when I move over to Spain, none of the stupid British move over with me.
