Yeah, lighten up on North Korea people...
Discussion
Ive always considered that perhaps North Korea isnt as bad as its made out to be, yes its reguime is probably evil but is it that much more evil than China, syria, South Korea?
I read an article about in north korea they have been turning the street lights off at certain times of night, this was reported as a bad thing ('rolling street light black outs'), if we did it in the UK it would be for green reasons..

Have a read of this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nothing-Envy-Ordinary-Live...
It's a collection of stories from North Koreans who escaped to South Korea. Sounds like hell on Earth.

I couldn't possibly comment on whether this guy is right or wrong, but I'm perfectly willing to accept the notion of group think amongst Western media.
It does surprise me the speed with which people will jump to comment authoritatively on things they have no personal experience of! I'l like to know how many of the people posting comments on the Guardian page actually have any more knowledge of Korea than I do on which to form opinions, and how many are just doing so from what they've seen in the Western media, which is basically the point of the article.

I'd suggest there is quite a bit of information on hand, should one be interested in knowing what "life" (or should I say existence) is like in the DPRK. I really don't think Western media needs to attempt to write hatchet pieces to influence opinion. It's not often that the BTL comments are unanimously in agreement. A genuinely thought provoking article.
Unfortunately the thought is "Hang on, where are the regular mouth breathers on cif? They'd lap this crap up".
Monbiot must have squeezed out another epic at the same time.
