Police arrest teenager over Tom Daley Twitter abuse
Discussion
Arrested? For what?
I'm not even sure what he said was malicious or abusive, insensitive and ignorant perhaps.

Being arrested is one thing. Being charged is another.
I think it is the modern equivalent of the old "clip around the ear" by the local Bobby.
Maybe it will serve as a bit of a detterent to others who may be considering hurling abuse at competitors in the Olympics - especially British ones who have more competituive events ahead of them.
And also a little message telling keyboard idiots that they can be easilly traced and are not as anonymous as they might think.

so what he tweeted was:
"You let your dad down i hope you know that."
is that really a 'menacing communication' (which is what he's been arrested for sending)?
I wouldn't say so. where is the menace?
bad decision by the police imo. their fathers are probably disappointed too.
The threats to kill someone else on twitter over this were slightly more serious"You let your dad down i hope you know that."

But isn't this the world that everyone wanted? A world that had no barriers and we could say what we want to who we want, without fear and reprisal? And haven't we rather followed the path that there are no standards?I think it is the modern equivalent of the old "clip around the ear" by the local Bobby.

Isn't this the same as wandering round an airport with a tshirt saying "fk YOU" in big letters? "Hey, it's my right to do this!" The idea that if you are offended, then you are the one with the problem?
Lots of rights, but not a lot of responsibilities.
