Floating voter - UKIP why not?
Discussion
I have voted for the Conservatives and Labour at different stages of my life. I am pro-Europe but anti-EU.
I am increasingly frustrated by politicians who seem to justify a reluctance to give a referendum on the EU on the basis that I do not understand the issue and may vote the wrong way...
I hoped a coalition might provide the best of talents but now see just a lack of direction. The recent 'plebgate' incident has tipped me away from tactical voting on the basis of which party I do not want elected and made me consider UKIP more seriously. A review of their website and policies shows nothing to concern me. So as someone who has not entirely made their mind up.. UKIP - why not?

On a complete tangent, does anyone else remember Nigel Farage being involved in that plane crash a year or two back?
They had hired a small light aircraft to fly a UKIP banner, and he was in it. It crash landed, and flipped right over. Nige and the pilot had to crawl from the wreckage - luckily battered and bruised, but no serious injuries.
Don't like Farage, but I wouldn't wish that on anyone

even voting Conservative does not get Conservative
Not when nearly 7 million vote for the Liberal Democrats and 35% stay at home you don't. Keep in mind maybe a quarter of them 7m could transfer to Labour in 2015 as the Lib Dems fall off the cliff. Do you really want to take your vote away from the one party with a halfway realistic chance of stopping them and instead vote for one which needs 1 million votes to get one seat?martin84 said:

B) Vote UKIP = get Labour.
I really really really fking hate this argument.Who cares blue/red get in its all the same.
Until people start voting for something different we will just continue as we are for ever and ever.
Our politics is broken, until we show them by doing somethign different we just perpetuate it and s like Blair and cameron get in for ever and ever.

PH cared two years ago. How many times was it said we'd be in as bad a state as Greece by now if Brown had continued? Go read the election results thread if you don't believe me.Pesty said:

I mentioned on here recently the January 1910 election ended with the Conservative (and Liberal Unionist as it was then) Party, Labour and the Liberal Party as the top three. Bonar Law's seat was in Scotland so aside from the yellow parties name and the Tories standing in Scotland I'm not sure much as changed. Our politics is broken, until we show them by doing somethign different we just perpetuate it and s like Blair and cameron get in for ever and ever.
It also has to be pointed out we don't have a Conservative Government. We have a mishmash. If you put 'modern' centrist Tories in with the Lib Dems into some supercomputer it'd spit out a slightly less useless version of Labour. Which is what we have.
No PM since before WW2 has been judged purely by their performance as leader of a peacetime coalition. Our history of peacetime coalitions is generally pretty poor, only one in the last century completed it's term so the fact we're halfway through the Parliament and it's still standing should count for something.

I really really really fking hate this argument.I hope that if enough people vote UKIP it will at least show the Tories that they are useless at the moment, I don't think there are going to be enough people voting Tory for them to win the next election. Perhaps a landslide defeat will shake things up enough so that next time we get a decent Opposition who can then take power and take the country forward.
The problem with single issue parties is that away from the main event they have some really nutty stuff. For instance Farage is a smoker so it is official UKIP policy to bring back smoking in pubs. Even though he doesn't say how the bar staff who would be poisoned by this should be compensated.

My reasons for voting UKIP are that I support the majority of their policies, good enough for you?
Me too!! and today my blood pressure is lower remembering I voted for them at the GE and not Blue labour, mosty good poilcys and some very bright people lord Monkton, Farage, Paul Nutall and others.. personaly I would prefer a labour gov to what we have, it's just so depessing when the party you have always supported is populated by total wkers and the ones with any common sense are kept quiet incase they upset the LIBDUMS...Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
