I do not normally ask people to sign e petitions, but feel very strongly about this particular cause.

I'm a serving soldier. I've been to Afghanistan. I've been to Iraq and Northern Ireland too.
What Marine A committed was murder. Plain and simple. The Talib was hors de combat and therefore could not have legally been killed. Marine A knew this, hence his comment regarding "I'm about to commit a war crime", he took a chance and he got caught.
There are laws that govern conflict and we must stick to them even if our enemies do not.
He knew he was about to commit a crime. He committed a crime. He was caught, tried and found guilty - he got what he deserved.

I can't confess to being au fait with this. What were the circumstances of the demise of the 'insurgent'?
If I remember correctly, insurgent was injured during a brief battle, marine A took it upon himself to help the insurgent on his way with a bullet to the head rather than follow the rules of war For those that missed it at the time here's one of the several threads that ran on the topic;

Mike what regiment are you in?, as a serving soldier, you will be aware that head cams are standard. This came out 2 years after the incident and had been seen and cleared by the MOD
Having a headcam doesn't make murder legal, and it hadn't been seen or cleared by the MOD. Hence why when it was seen, some time later, he was put on trial.Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
