last Dambuster dies....
Discussion
Have always been mesmerised by the dambusters story from when I saw the old film for the first time and just happened to spend time the other day reading about operation chastise on the web. From Barnes Wallace to the extreme bravery of the pilots and aircrew, I have huge respect for them all.
RIP Sqd Ldr Munro.

The dambusters raid was a fantastic achievement. Mrs. BC & I visited their old HQ at RAF Scampton last year. You can see Guy Gibson's office and other memorabilia including 's grave. Funny how odd it seems even using the 'N' word now.
Anybody can visit Scampton and do the tour, by arrangement of course.

Why is it sad? What a daft thing to say!
Celebrate the ballsy bd ffs, dont mope and whine about how sad it is a bloke dying at 96 after a long, active and fulfilling life! He was still flying last yr!
Good on the bugger, cracking innings and a damn fine death. Well played Sqn Ldr.

I do see what you mean though - sad news, but certainly not a tragedy.
He got a good score under his belt, and filled his years up well. As you say, well played.

Here we have a true Hero who fully deserved the accolade - they just don't make like that anymore.
Then of course we have "heroes" like the footballer Ronaldo who buys their manager/agent (whatever) a bloody island as a wedding present!!!!
All from kicking a bloody football around. We sure do get the "heroes" we deserve don't we. I don't blame him - he has just taken what is on offer but ffs what has happened to us?

Inclined to agree with this. It's sad when someone dies in their 20s or 30s. It's sad when someone dies lonely and forgotten. A decorated war hero who had a great life and lived until he was 96. That's expected.Celebrate the ballsy bd ffs, dont mope and whine about how sad it is a bloke dying at 96 after a long, active and fulfilling life! He was still flying last yr!
