The Army take to the streets of London....
Discussion
...In order to supplement the police force that is struggling due to the continued cuts and additional requirements being placed on the Police.
But as this terrorism issue is likely never going to go away, is it time we considered an additional, national paramilitary police force such as the French have to take over armed policing duties, leaving the current police force to concentrate on 'every day' policing?

The government can't even afford a decent well staffed police force so where are they going to get the funds to recruit an entirely new organisation? Why change system that seems to be working? Operation Temperer has delivered nearly 5,000 extra armed personnel to stand guard at sensitive locations, leaving proper coppers free to go and Police. All at more or less no cost to the taxpayer.
Why would we want to pay for an additional 5,000 personnel all year round?

Then may as well put the cash into the police?
The Police should be policing, not guarding, should they not? And using the army has another flaw... the troops deployed today were carrying assault rifles that are too powerful to use in an area potentially full of civilians. A round from an sa80 could do a lot of unintentional damage after passing through or just missing a target.
I regularly have to drive through armed police check points......today a soldier had joined them.....never had a problem....but the soldiet seemed somewhat edgy....and very focused :-/ makes me wonder if they have the right sort of training /experience.

What do you mean by "an SA 80"?SA 80 is a family of weapons.
Hint: It stands for SMALL ARMS 1980.
Given that there are images of people carrying the L119A1 (basically a Canadian cut down version of the AR-15) which uses the same 5.56 x 45 mm NATO round, your point is what exactly?

It's been known as the SA80 for 30 years and you are being pedantic. SA 80 is a family of weapons.

Most of the police that carry weapons do not carry weapons that use 5.56 mm and you also know that I suspect, but again are trying to score a pointless win. Only police that have additional special training carry more powerful weapons.

Go and look at the picture of the 'SAS' guy holding a L119A1.
Now tell me that 5.56 x 45mm NATO should not be used on the streets.
I posted the below in the Manchester thread. Is it the L119A1 you speak of, or the L119A2? I guess he is SAS then?Go and look at the picture of the 'SAS' guy holding a L119A1.

This guy seems to think it can be called it an SA 80
It's a cut down, ie Carbine version of the Canadian built version of the AR-15.
IE it's essentially the equivalent of the M4.
Either way, it fires the 5.56 x 45mm NATO round (in exactly the same way as does the L85A2) that TTMonkey refers to as the "SA80".
So TTMonkey is all sorts of upset about BRITMIL being on the streets with L85A2 (owing to the ammunition) but not L119A1/2.
Ergo he is a fking hypocrite.

You seem very angry about something.
Try a calmer approach.
She is throwing about insults and swear words for absolutely no reason, very crass. Try a calmer approach.
I know a couple of people that served right at the thick end of things and are extremely humble and don't big up their skills and knowledge, a quality that could be learned from I think.
