The other things that “vanish” during the night are drain covers and grates
My grandparents had their front paving nicked about 20 years ago.
Really upset my grandmother. She "did the step" every week even though she was almost 80 at the time.
The house was my grandfathers parents house before they lived there.
It was only about a dozen slabs but they were mint and c.1890, total pr*cks.

Looking at the pictures shows the slabs they left were not fancy or special, I cant believe there would have been two types of pavers on one pavement.
This looks like they have stolen old concrete paving slabs and left the cracked or broken ones
Looking on Street View, it looks like many are york stone stabs, so they just left the concrete repairs and cracked ones (I thought the cracked ones would be good for crazy paving!):This looks like they have stolen old concrete paving slabs and left the cracked or broken ones

I had about 150 yards of stone path stolen from one of my rentals: from the rear garden!
I’ve even had the stone coping a pinched from my stone gate posts. My neighbour lost some of his wall the same night. We’re up a private road too: not some where you pass.
And a few years back a neighbour was having his house extensively converted: someone had the stone roof off that whilst they were on holidays part through.
This is the only drawback of living in Yorkshire: beautiful stone 🙂

Paving slabs have been nicked for years up here in Yorkshire. Even the Council are not averse to removing Yorkstone slabs and replacing with tarmac when it suits them to save cost of repair. About 20 years ago I arrived at work one morning to find our back yard had been stripped of paving slabs in the night. Similarly all the lead off our office roof was nicked in the middle of the night. Needless to say the slabs were replaced with concrete and the lead with artificial lead.
