Fenland District Council nose poke

Reported on local TV News, this Council is proposing that any and all employees of the Council must inform the Council of 'romance' between any of those employee's. The proposal is going to the Members this week for voting upon and is expecting the proposal to be adopted. It was also said in the news report that this is quite a common policy in the private sector.
I say its an intrusion of individual privacy and provided the 'couple' ensure that the romance is not affecting their work performance then what is the point of such a policy. Its also said that even in these enlightened times gay couples may wish to remain private in their private lives.

Afaik it's been quite common in the pub sec for many years, particularly where money and valuables are handled.

Lots of companies have very keen "no shagging your workmate" policies - it's not good for a business as breakups cause massive issues at work. Besides, the cleaner is sick of getting arse marks off the photocopier...

I imagine this policy will only apply to family members then?

The leader of the council attempted to play down the impact of the policy, claiming the number of employees who might be affected could be counted on the fingers of one hand.....roughly six (not including the webby bits between the fingers)

More managers and HR people shirking their responsibilities, imho. I've had plenty of relationships with workmates but thankfully we've all been adults so none of these 'massive issues' have manifested themselves.

It's happened in places I've worked, where relationships have meant people have covered for each other over things that should have been made public. It's something that needs to be managed. I can see that with an organisation like a council, with so many effectively different but related companies being run in a tight geographic area, would be more open to abuse, because it wouldn't be obvious to line managers that there might be a relationship going on.
