So today we found out just how much the public sector are being expected to cough up towards their pensions, following much gnashing and wailing from the unions.

Oh the poor lambs. People on over £60k having to stump up a whole 5.9% MAX towards their gilt-edged final salary pension. The public sector needs to get a grip on reality IMHO.

That said, when they come for it, I'll have to bend over and take the hit with no chance of striking or redressing it at all. Fortunately for you, there will be no mention of it in the press and the service we provide to you will not be affected one jot. As if you notice it anyway.
Precisely the same as when my pension was removed this time last year.

So if you've been in the same boat as I'm about to be, why slag me off?!

Or do you just need someone to vent your frustration at?
When did I slag you off? confused

I simply find it astonishing that people in the public sector think that they are somehow entitled to a pension scheme that is so grossly out of kilter with the private sector and unaffordable to the country.

It's part of my terms and conditions of service, I was clearly too young and too full of hope when I signed up to them to think the government would be so willing to change them. Although I'd imagine they certainly will change sharpish after 2014...

What pisses me off is that I suffer because of the actions of others, be they politicians or irresponsible financial tpyes...I'd imagine that pisses many private sector folks off as well. The difference is the quick willingness to lump me and mine with the wothless non-jobbers hanging round the public sector who are the ones earning the big bucks, only working hard to cover their own arses and whining about having to contribute a little more to get much more than you or I ever will...
You should probably say what your job is, then.

Why? The tone of your OP clearly indicates you consier all public sector workers to be one-and-the-same; "poor lambs" with gold plated final salary pensions...
Prove me wrong.

OK so perhaps my statement "So today we found out just how much the public sector are being expected to cough up" should have read "So today we found out just how much certain elements of the public sector are being expected to cough up".

As to you paying nothing towards your pension - I think that across the whole of the public sector, the armed forces has the best possible justification for paying nothing and getting a decent pension, given the nature of the job.

Osbourne chimed in this evening suggesting that the 'private sector' are simply jealous of the Public sector pension arrangements. Reading some of these posts seems he is correct.
Not sure "jealous" is the right word... I'd certainly like a final salary pension in exchange for 5% of salary, but I certainly wouldn't entertain working in the public sector to get it.

Incidentally, having just watched it, thats really not how he said it. It was a passing remark, nothing more.
