Genuine Question as it is topical.

Please no negative posts, I just wondered what the perceived benefits are / were ?

What do I or greater society gain from it ?

What do I mean ? - it is the use of the words in mainstream society, and the average man's understanding of it.

Sweden made a conscious decision in 1975 to become a Multi-cultural Society, I appreciate they appear to be having problems now, but why would you think it would be a good idea. They must have had some reason for doing it ?

Young lady at work suggested that it allows us to experience other Cultures - which is a good thing. Surely you go to their country to experience their culture ? I enjoyed 2 weeks in Turkey, but wouldn't want to live there. Nor can I honestly say I have experienced any Turkish Culture in the UK, or seen a positive effect of Turkish Culture in the UK. This could be my fault for not making an effort to visit certain areas of London but I like cars and naked women, I have no reason or interest to visit them.

I would go with that - food, yes it is not part of "Indian / Chinese " culture but still a benefit.

I do accept that there have been benefits associated with conquest and rule by a foreign power, but that tended to be by more advanced societies. While not exclusive the multi culturalism that we are seeing in the UK do appear to be from less developed countrieS.

So can we deduce that Multi-culturalism works if;

The cultures are very similar in the first place, either through language, beliefs, skin colour or geographical location.

or

If a country can pick and choose aspects of other cultures and chooses to import them - the American example was a good one, we have aspects of their culture - Coke, McDonalds etc that we all buy into without having millions of them living here, there are other aspects of their culture we don't like and they have stayed in America.

There may well be aspects of say Syrian Culture which might work very well for the UK, but to date we have not "imported" any and having it thrust upon us does not allow us to sift through, we just take all of them the good and the bad.

I did like the definition as Ghettoisation of western capital cities !

Thanks

Multiculturalism will always fail if the host country accept it, but why should they want it ?

Yes it is very difficult to separate any arguments about it and immigration as they process will always go hand in hand. The problem with it is those that are supportive of it only quote the good points, and those against it only quote the bad.

I would suggest that a monoculture like North Korea is very stable - he got something like 99.5% of the vote !!!
