Looks like there has been another incident on an oil tanker, this time looks much more serious.

Royal Navy is on the way and crew are being airlifted.

Could easily boil over if they get a grip of who ever is doing it..

Further details are being reported that the US had a Reaper on over watch and there was an air to ground missile fired at it. Quite shocking given just how heavily populated the airspace is with civilian traffic in that area.

Quite a risk given just how busy that area is with civilian air traffic.

The US has said its lost an MQ-4C Triton - quite the trophy for Iran given that's one of the newest variants of the Global Hawk that the US has and was designed specifically for maritime operations. $200m in the drink.

I could think of better aircraft to lose though, not a brand new airframe with virtually no operational flight time.

I would have thought visual from ground station plus radar track probably plus speed and altitude means its nothing other than a UAV..

Most of Irans air assets are 1980s US equipment IIRC!!

War is coming. It shows you how hat st crazy Iran is.
They (Iran) wont risk it IMHO. Its just not worth it for them. Other than Israel they have little capability to strike the US or UK.
Their military capability is not even close to that of the UK and USA.

Personally I think they will push things as far as they can maybe a few shots might be fired, we might retaliate with a few cruise missiles but I think that's where it will end. Basically a shoving match.

Was doing 15kt heading 270 ish and had been for some time then about 4pm today UTC it slowed to 3kt and turned to 360 and then slowly sailed north about 30 miles towards Iranian coast.

Oh dear.

I think its more simple than all that... no country can afford a war at the moment. The actual cost of the first Gulf War was around $60Bn. However the cost to the countries in the aftermath was 100s of Bns.

The Iraq War 13 years later cost well over $1Tn and is still costing countries today. Estimates are total end cost might be well north of $2Tn.

A war with Iran, you must be looking at $3-5Tn.. for what, bragging rights down the golf course?

I wondered how long it would take after the release of the British ship for someone to pop cap in their @ss.

Now we know!
