70 years ago we lifted 240,000 people out of Dunkirk

Today Winky McfkNut cannot even get one boat over to Europe to bring anyone back.
It's pretty impressive.
I would be pretty sure that anyone currently sitting in Calais would be only too happy to just stand in a cargo hold for a couple of hours in order to get home.
Why does this man never research a plan before going public with it and then finding out it doesn't work?
Tony Blair started all this crap by leaking ideas to the press to try and find out what people thought and it has just snowballed over the years.
That dumb retard Gordon could have been onto this last week and had it all sorted and just let the boats arrive to bring back Britons and scored a massive PR victory at a crucial time but even when something like this is gifted to him he still screws it up.
Surely, the most incompetetant, pathetic Briton alive today.

Health and Safety might be his concern. Besides, are there many people concentrated in one area?
Exactly, but you would have thought he would have investigated all of this before standing up and saying he was sending the Navy.Re inacting Dunkirk in the run up to an election would have been a populist coup. Saying you are going to do it and then failing is just so Brown it isn't true.

Err.
Their is a RN vessel (I forget which one) docked up in spain somewhere picking up troops that have been flown in from afghan (end of deployment etc) its also going to be collecting 200 ish british civilains too.
We dont have many active ships and what we do have will take some time to move to where they will be useful. These things take time.
ETA its HMS Albion and the port is Santander.
ETFA its picking up 3 Rifles, also Ark Royal and Ocean are also moving towards that port too.
That was the story yesterday but it would appear that information is filtering out today that this is all bks. The one ship is in Spain as scheduled to pick up troops but it would appear that there is nothing for civvies.Their is a RN vessel (I forget which one) docked up in spain somewhere picking up troops that have been flown in from afghan (end of deployment etc) its also going to be collecting 200 ish british civilains too.

erm if they hadn't evacuated from Dunkirk people may have died/been imprisoned. They were living in the open and supplies would have been low before they were picked up by the enemy.
Currently people are having to stay in hotels a bit longer/or hang about in temperature controlled airports with food a drink.
Bit different.
Very different, I agree. But my point is that if you are going to attempt to cash in for political gain on a serious historical event you could at least put a little effort into getting it right.Currently people are having to stay in hotels a bit longer/or hang about in temperature controlled airports with food a drink.

I'm sick of hearing about this. Sorry, I'm sure it's not fun not being able to get home but in the grand scheme of things it's absolutely fk all except a little inconvenience.
Yes but you are forgetting that we now live in a society where if someone breaks wind:A meeting of Cobra is called
The media swamps the TV and press with terror stories of the impact and probable death to all of us
The Govt come up with insane solutions to deal with such a devastating issue.
Several Quangos are set up.
A charity is formed
And everyone on MumsNet screams about paedophile flatulance fisting every child in the country.
We live in a society where even Scousers are begining to look unemotional.
Quite frankly I'm amazed Shameful Chakribati hasn't been on TV complaining how the lack of transport is stopping honest illegal immigrants from arriving for their free cash and house.
