PPI payouts.... new info for anyone previously refused
Discussion
I claimed via the Lloyds website a few years ago and was told I didn't have PPI.
Took the advise from this forum and tried again
On Friday had a shock when I checked my account and found £40,000.00 PPI repayment.
Rough figures......
Refund of payments £4000
Debit Interest £30000
Other Indirect Losses £3000
Compensation. £5000
Minus tax at basic rate
I'm a very happy bunny

I rang my bank and asked if I ever had PPI? No was the answer. I remember consolidating all my debt from uni and the total costs being £800 in interest and charges.
They have to tell the truth don't they?
they do but nobody is perfect, and they're only legally obliged to keep records for 6years. but you could always do a SAR. and if you have old paperwork with proof that you had PPI well...They have to tell the truth don't they?

Hi All
Just found the section of Pistonheads and it very interesting.
We had a PPI company check our history about 10 years ago and they found one of our mortgages had sold up ppi and we got a small pay-out but I don’t think they checked any other financial areas like bank accounts or credit cards.
Is it worth using a company to do these checks if so which one would people recommend as being the least hassle but one who will check everything that needs to be checked.
Obviously, there would be a commission to them but I am happy to pay that if they get a result.
Cheers
Andy

Congrats to all who had payouts.
I never used to take payment protection so hadn't bothered checking. On the advice of a friend I recently hit all the banks up with PPI claims via their websites. They all came back blank except for Barclays as I had an Egg card. I remember declining payment protection but lo they say in their letter that I had it on November 2001. I had that card as it transferred to barclaycard and all the way until 2015 when I cancelled it so thought I'd be quids in. I used that card extensively. I had even relocated overseas twice during the time I had that card. I had to be in the money right.
Nope. They came back with a cheque for £12.62 for a single PPI payment (plus interest) in November 2001. Apparently my thrifty younger self had noticed the payment and cancelled PPI in December 2011 so I only had it for one month.
Boo.

I swore blind I’d never taken PPI either, but having speculatively filled in the enquiry forms with major lenders I have received 2 x questionnaires from Lloyd’s relating to PPI presumably one for each account I held. They are asking for quite a lot of detail around my circumstances at the time (15 years ago).
I questions expect me to know quite a lot when in fact I can’t really remember much about my circumstances then and don’t know the exact time period they are referring to.
What’s the best thing I should do? Ignore the questioning or phone and tell them I don’t recall any details?

answer it as much as possible. your circumstances around the time define whether it was suitable for you or whether you would've been eligable to claim on the policy. some things are important like your employment status at the time, other things less so like whether you know if it was a single premium or monthly one. you're going to fill out a very similar questionnaire even if you brought your complaint to FOS.What’s the best thing I should do? Ignore the questioning or phone and tell them I don’t recall any details?
