I can understand your frustration but it's hardly the customer's fault if your systems are not up to date.

If you've got a notice up and their not reading it, thenbthat's a totally different matter. I know my local Sainsburys petrol station has a notice up says 'it's not contactless"
We've put stickers on each of the pinpads, which some people see, but many don't. We did actually get upgraded to contactless, but as soon as it was enabled in software, it stopped our pay at pump terminals working, so it had to be disabled again.
The software supplier is blaming the till hardware supplier, who is blaming the pump supplier. 3 big companies passing the buck.

Our scanners do the job they are designed for, reading product barcodes and Nectar cards. They can't handle many non-printed (ie on a phone screen) barcodes. Something to do with the way phone screens refresh, as older Android phones work, but newer ones (and most iPhones) don't.
It was an issue years ago when I worked in IT. Tesco's upright scanners were configured with a series of barcodes. We had them as images on our laptops, but had to print out a physical copy before they would scan.

I have taken it up with management. The response was "it's not our app, not our problem". I can see their point of view, not wanted to upgrade thousands of scanners just to make life "easier" for a few people that can't be bothered to carry the company-supplied loyalty card to get their free money.

I find contactless useful but pain if you fill up car ie over £30 limit or as I find if use loads of times is rejected and have to use chip and pin, shopkeeper told me normally every 7 times need chip and pin
You can use contactless over £30 with Apple pay on most terminals.
Lots of retailers limit Apple Pay to £30. It annoys me and I ask them to update their limits. Many don't know Apple Pay is not limited

I think the Tesco PayQwiq works ok. Even better .... it made the assistant really grumpy...and there was no delay on my part.

Thanks for taking the time to clarify and I can see where you're coming from smile

The Tesco Clubcard App is being actively being promoted by Tesco.

The Nectar App doesn't have the ability to scan off the screen.

As an aside Santander cash machines now give you the option to tap the car and then put in your pin. A couple of times I've stood there wondering why it hasn't given me my card back when I'm finished forgetting I never put it in in the first place smile
