Buy a house, you can't live in shares.

Well I suppose if you bought enough of them you could paste them together into a sort of tent. But it would still not be as good to live in as a house.
Mmm but shares have dropped 70 % and starting to rise 7% today scratchchin

Edited by 007 VXR on Sunday 18th July 00:20
Shouldn't you have asked this question about a month or so ago when the share price was <300p? They've risen more than 7% since then.......

[smug]bought at 298p[/smug]* wink

isnt gold at an all time high price? thats why thee was all the fuss when winky sold off all our gold at the bottom of the market. and why we had all those stupis tv adverts a while back

Edited by Pesty on Sunday 18th July 01:21
Yes it is. So that says something in itself. actually the price is relative, currencies fluctuate, and both the dollar and the pound have devalued in this crisis, hence gold costs more pounds an ounce, but the pound isn't worth as much as it was.

So Gold peaked in 81 in todays money it would be $2200, and it was at a high $1,248 in June, so Gold has someway to go before it peaks.

But it's still interesting someone has bought all that cocoa

Based on the same reasoning as you, I bought some BP (although no where near a house worth), but its a total punt. As others said, the slightest upset and it'll crash again. I'd be very wary of puting 60K on one horse.

Also, Im not sure where the 70% comes from . BP's 52 week high is 658, and the low is 298. Asssuming a swing from one to the other it is still only a 55% drop/234% rise. Although as has already been said, the price is already back through 400, so more like a 160% return(assuming a return to the highest value for the last year). i.e the best return you can hope for is smaller than that suggested by your figure of 70%

All that I have seen points to a decline, the banks aren't repossessing houses with people in them, tbh they are still chasing people from the last crash, but a rise in base rates would hurt.

Thanks for the explanation. these markets are a mystery to me, just trying to get my head around it.

all I know is some one has bought all of Europe's Cocoa beans. Question if shares are a bargain why buy commodities?
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/markets/7895242/Mystery-trader-buys-all-Europes-cocoa.html

Can somebody explain to me the thinking behind buying all the cocoa?i.e 'cornering the market'

I didn't even realise you could do that.

if everyone stops eating chocolate for the year he'll be fked ..

To the OP .. Do you really want to put all your eggs in one basket? .. Perhaps an investment trust which provides some income would be a bit less risky.

Very risky, IMHO. The oil leak is symbolic really, there is the prospect of kneejerk fines/legislation etc by Obama to come. At the moment I would say 100% invest in shares, however with 60k you have excellent scope to pick up a balanced portfolio in order to offset potential losses.

I invest on a much, much smaller scale but am starting to branch out now- This has served me well, as massive losses in one corner on punts such as Sport Media group are offset by massive gains on other speculative stocks (ACTA, Italian company, currently up 250pc in the last couple of months).
