There are also exclusions to purchases that earn cashback. Financial services, betting, and car purchases are all excluded.
I was surprised to get cash back on a used car, bought a cheap trade in from a small garage. Suppose the system didn’t differentiate between garage work and car purchase

Yeah, I've had the same from small garage forecourts. As you say, the merchant offers more than one service so probably impossible to differentiate

I had a pleasant surprise when I received £50 cash back after paying a deposit on a car earlier this year.

Do they work in French garages?

My post office pre-paid travel card is never accepted at the pump.

Yes - it's a Mastercard; as long as you have enough funds in the account. I keep a nominal sum in there and transfer the amount needed from the savings account before using.

Oh, the chase one is a pre-paid one?
Is that why it’s only an ID check and not a full credit search one?

Chase isn't prepaid. You can choose to have your salary and direct debits through it. Most people use it as an auxiliary card though for the cashback benefits and decent savings rate. I keep a good chunk of my cash in the savings account (4.1%) and transfer into the spending account as needed.

I've moved my savings to Metro for the moment @ 5.2%. Chip are 4.84%, Chase aren't keeping up currently...

I tried to open a Metro account but they wouldn't let me. Tbf I've only got about 5k in there so it's not gonna make a great deal of difference anyway.

Don’t they penalise you for removing money from your high interest account?

Thanks. I’ll bin the post office travel card for Frogland jaunts then.

No, no penalty.

Correct, it's unlimited access. I tend to keep less than £50 in the debit card account, and the rest of my salary goes into the savings account to maximise interest earnings (every penny counts right?) I'll then transfer across as needed, it's instant, and unrestricted.

Cashback rules have changed since they launched the UK account.

Initially you got one year of uncapped 1% cashback (some exceptions), this was later limited. After the first year I now get 1% on the first £1500 spend per month but only if I transfer £500+ into the account each month. Transferring from the savings account does not qualify for cashback. I think this stands for another year currently.

Probably all changed again.

I use it for all debit card/Google pay spending these days and really like the app.

Same here.

I was fortunate to receive over £450 cashback in the first year (basically 'money for nowt'), but still continue to use the account for purchases alongside the Savings and Round-up accounts, despite the cashback limitations.

Yeah, same. I previously used a Barclaycard credit card which gave 0.5% cashback for all my spending. I now use the Chase account for most purchases, and Barclaycard for insurance etc as they don't have the same exclusions. I wish use Quidco for insurance quotes and generally earn about £100 a year from them

Anyone else getting messages via the app asking: 'We Need To Check Your Infromation'?

I've been with them nearly 2 years - all been fine, but the app is now saying my personal information needs to be reconfirmed within 14 days or the app will stop working.

Fair enough - but when I opened the account it was with a passport etc.. nothing has changed - just seemed a bif odd, don;t get that with any other of my banking apps.

I had that a few weeks ago. Called them as I thought it may be a scam but no it was real so I jumped through the required hoops. Nothing too onerous.

Thanks - it seem a bit 'scammy' - so thought I'd ask
