A friend of mine appears to be making a killing out of crypto at the moment and I'm struggling to comprehend how he's making the cash. His latest tip is MTL but I don't understand who wins from putting money into all these different currencies. Can someone explain it in really plain english?

seems difficult to make money on Alts at the moment.

I'm waiting for a dip in Bitcoin to buy more. Pre-fork? Post-fork?.....

Then maybe sell Alts when Bitcoin is re-invested back into the Alt market post fork. So keeping an eye out for Alt Coin bargains this week...

Could very well be linked to the current Bittrex fiasco of accounts being arbitrarily deactivated.

when i started mining in march 2017 i used to make 15-27 Dollars a day off 5 gtxs. One weekend made I 150 dollars(decred). i only did it for 4 months made a bit and sold up for what it cost me. for 5-6 dollars a day it just seemed pointless considering investing in most coins makes a hell of lot more.

It all depends. You're hedging really. My rig has thus far cost about 1400 euros, in the Netherlands you get taxed if you keep your daily account with too much money in it so I figured I'd build a rig. Worst case, I sell it all and lose a few quid.

Thus far it's made around $100 USD. If BTC continues its long term trend in 3-5 years that $5 /day could be worth $20. Of course I could have bought the coins and just sat on them but it was fun to build a rig and I get free electricity smile

What did the kit cost and what is your electricity bill?
Rig cost around £2900. At just under 850W @11.256pKW/h using OneSelect energy provider should cost me £900 a year in electricity.

Surely you need to be hooked into next door's supply or bypassing the meter to make any money?

The money made now is in the speculation of increasing demand ergo price.

Actually I just played around with my clock settings and my annual electricity costs are now down to £803 per year.

Yes, I'm not selling my Ethereum just Hodl hodl hodl!

Anyone buying BTC for the 'free' gold fork payout?

Me. I traded btc to ethereum in the hope it'd go up after the byzantium fork, but when I saw btc rising I decided to get back in on it.

Was a bit late to both parties sadly, lesson learnt to buy the rumour and sell the news!

gtx 1070 can run at 75% power consumption easy which reduces leccy costs. 6x gt1070 was about 1.5 a day, some algos are very leccy heavy though.

I was running my 1070s at 75% until today. I'm now running them at 67% with no loss in hashrate of ~31.5Mh/s each.

Bitfinex or binance. There is nowhere else other than the iota exchange which has no volume.

I just dropped an amount into bitcoin yesterday.

Always been a trading / AIM markets guy and either gone short or long.

Only invested what I can afford to lose. Let's see where the ride takes me.

My real question throughout the process has been how to move money digital to physical hard cash in your accounts and hands.

But this seems easy enough.

Yep, I use finex. The IOTA Wallet situation is awful at the moment, it's something they really need to work on.
