I went to Carcraft a few years ago to get a look at a range of different cars. The salesmanboy sauntered up and warbled "I can do 0% on this motor mate". Looking at the roughly 150% market price I said "I guess that means you can do a big discount on a cash sale then?" . He said he'd knock £50 off a 5 grand car so I just laughed and walked away. I genuinely thought he was joking until I walked past a sales desk and overheard one punter reeling off his list of loans and CCJs. That was the moment I understood what was happening with debt in this country.
