I'm considering getting a cashback credit card to bring in a little more £. Most of my spending is done via Apple Pay and I never use cash, so it seems like a good time to get a cashback card.

I am a low spender, so spend each month is in the hundreds, not thousands. I do have a few Avios though, so was considering just getting the BA Amex and topping my points up to fly somewhere.

Does anyone have any opinion on going for the Amex Everyday CC or Amex BA CC? Or is there something else I should consider?

Thanks

Pints

Do remember that not all places accept Amex cards, so you need to have an alternative on occasion.

Everywhere I regularly spend accepts Amex. But of course I will have backup Visa cards.

They are few & far between these days frown

I currently use a John Lewis or Tesco Mastercard where my AmEx isn't accepted. Tesco is very good as you can 'boost' the points which makes eating out / days out etc very cheap.

I use an American Express or John Lewis Mastercard, which cover my cashback needs perfectly.

That and quidco.com for online purchases.

Also consider that there are two different BA Amex cards (or there were when I last looked into it). One is free, one isn't. The latter gives a better return IF you use it enough.

Also noticed recently that BA are now passing on credit card fees to customers when you book online, so the somewhat obvious use of the BA Amex card to buy BA flights probably doesn't give that good a return any more (versus paying with a debit card).

I use a Tesco MasterCard for this. I've got stloads of Tesco Clubcard points. Sometimes I spend them on petrol, sometimes on a meal or sometimes just on food. It works pretty well for me.

The only petrol station near me is a Tesco one, that's why I started using it.

You can use Amex points on Amazon which is quite useful. You need one of their paid cards but they're free in the first year so you could ditch it once you've accumulated the points and spent them.

That's where I rack up most of my AmEx cashback. Pretty sure I don't pay an annual fee on my Platinum card, I may be wrong though.

1.5% cashback on spend over £10k is a great deal, it's 1% below £10k I think.

I use an Amex cashback credit card (no fee) - it seems to be accepted almost everywhere these days, there are very few places that I have to switch to a different card.

I use mine like a debit card for virtually everything, and it usually gets me ~£250 cashback a year. But that does suggest I spend far too much money throughout the year.
