Following the 'What is Ethereum' thread I wanted to start a thread for anyone that has interest or currently investing/trading in crypto currency's to discuss news and holdings and also for anyone with questions about crypto currency.
Ill kick things off with my current holds -
BTC (bitcoin)
SRAT (Stratis)
STEEM (STEEM)
With the latest Bitcoin news this should be a good week for crypto gains

I see more commercial application for Ethereum but am in the finance sector so biased towards the work of DAH.
Look up bitcoin sidechains. Ethereum have just marketed this stuff heavily upfront; the smart contract concept is certainly not theirs alone and Bitcoin is quite capable of carrying this stuff on the side (thankfully at arm's length for security, hence "sidechain"). Rootstock is one.Nice simple graphic explaining:

Thank you. I have to confess that ETH fits with my confirmation bias, and I am a bit of an outsider (I bought in based on others sentiment). I will have a longer look, my interest is my on the DLT side than intrinsic value. boxst said:
Where do you buy bitcoins from? I haven't bought any for years and years, somewhat put off by the fact that they got seized as part of a raid by the FBI
The ones I had at that time were only a few dollars a bitcoin.
The most painless is going to be Bittylicious or Localbitcoins which can be done with faster payments. I like Bittylicious more. Both of them are prone to horrific premiums if the price is excited though. The ones I had at that time were only a few dollars a bitcoin.
If you want a market rate then opening an account at Fidor bank and sending EUR to Kraken is probably the cheapest and fastest option for a Brit.

As above I use local bitcoin and have made a good contact on there who can get me better rates. Normally pay a 5% premium on there.
The idea of coinbase is good but the time it takes before you can buy significant sums seems over the top - localbitcoin is better but as others have said there can be significant premiums to be paid unless you want to provide extensive proof of ID.mind sharing the contact name?
PM perhaps?
There's a very good article on Bloomberg today about hard fork FUD (fear, uncertainty & doubt) and how traditional currencies have themselves "hard forked" many times in the past. One example is the creation of the Eurodollar:

bloomberg said:
After a fork, a currency exists in two or more incompatible forms. Two of the biggest forks for the U.S. dollar occurred in 1963 and 1971.
In 1963, the U.S. passed the badly conceived Interest Equalization Tax on purchases of foreign securities by taxpayers. London banks quickly created “eurodollar” deposits, 1 dollar deposits outside the U.S. banking system, which were not subject to the tax
Another part of the article illustrates the profound effect of inflation on traditional currencies. For example, although ostensibly "backed" by government, sterling has deflated by 98% in the past 100 years. In 1963, the U.S. passed the badly conceived Interest Equalization Tax on purchases of foreign securities by taxpayers. London banks quickly created “eurodollar” deposits, 1 dollar deposits outside the U.S. banking system, which were not subject to the tax

it is the rule, not the exception, that currencies evaporate due to hyperinflation, government default or expropriation, or a losing a war

bitdice ICO - not for the faint hearted!

might have a dabble on a very very high risk accepted basis.

I've only been into crypto for about 4 weeks with no previous trading experience so a steep learning curve having bought eth at £200ea!!
Then got into Ans which i sold at the latest pump. Put the profits into strat and then bought back the same volume of ans when it dumped today.
Also got a tiny amount of golem.
Anyone using hard storage? Ive got a ledger nano s on order but it doesnt reckon it will be here till mid september!
