Getting a semi large amount of euro,s from Spain

We are getting married next week in Spain as my girlfriend is spainish. As part of their tradition cash gifts are given. We need to get this money back to the UK and exchange it.

To complicate things we aren't coming directly back as we go on honeymoon first. However my girlfriend will be going back to Spain at the end of August so she could physically bring it back. However it seems a bit risky her carrying a large sum.

Her family has Spanish bank accounts and they wanted to pay it in and then transfer it to us but I guess the rate and charges would be bad.

Any advice ?

Thanks for or the replies guys. Yes the gifts are in euro's so it's a small win that the pound is next to worthless currently.

Transferwise looks exactly what I'm looking for.

So I understand correctly my Spanish in laws transfer the money to transferwise and they transfer it to me. Sounds ideal.
