Tree Surgeons - How much to remove this tree?
Discussion
Pah! I'll do it for £100 and a couple of cups of tea, bonus being I'll do it by hand and may even hurt myself in the process so entertaining too!
Seriously though, if it were my tree I'd do it myself using a handsaw! It doesn't look to be any thicker than about 5" would only take an afternoon!

I'd go with what treehack said pricewise though if I were local I'd do it for less(but I'm skint )
Could easily take it out with a sharp bowsaw. Have done oaks up to about 15" (25-30ft tall) before with them which is no fun at all but perfectly safe.
Take any low and weighty branches off first that can be reached fairly safely, then fell it (away from the house!) then poison it with a bit of Roundup or something similar.
You'll get a fair bit of material off it though so make sure you have somewhere suitable to have a big feck off fire
Ps. What is it, looks like a rowan?

Well, cut down to near ground level, then administer root poison to remaining stump. Leave for 1 month then call stump grinder in. Finished.
interesting!. stump grinder??????, sounds industrial?Removed a few trees over the last few years. One I removed in sections as there was nowhere safe for it to fall.
My normal technique is to leave a stump of about 5ft. Then dig around the base and cut the roots with axe and/or mattock. The stump is long enough for you to use as a lever to break any remaining roots.
Total cost zero but you do get free exercise.

I would also go for the DIY method, chop most of the branches of it, leaving the trunk. Tie a rope to the top of the trunk. Dig around the base of the tree, severing the roots you found. Occasionally pull on the rope to check the stability of the tree.Once it starts to move get someone to keep the rope taut so you know which way it will go, or attach it to a car to keep taut. Dig a bit more until with a pull it falls over. Cut through any visible roots that are still connected, chop trunk leaving enough to enable the stump to be levered around to cut through remaining roots.
Job done.
