Saw for cutting legs of desk
Discussion
Find something that is the same height as the amount that you want to remove off the legs, ie a book or stack up some cd cases. Then push them up to each leg and mark them with a pencil all the way round each leg. (You can't use a tri square on the tapered sides).
Then just a hand saw following the markings on all sides. A jigsaw or a circular saw would do it but I'd use a straight edge guide clamped across two legs at a time.

I have all manner of electric saws and I'd use a manual hacksaw with a metal cutting blade for that.
If you absolutely must use an electric saw, the best bet is probably an oscilating "multi-tool" type saw with a fine metal cutting blade. Anything more aggressive than that risks splitting the wood as it exits.
