You may remember I put up a picture of my small self built pool on your other thread.

Good luck with the finishing off.
I certainly do, that was a great build and I bet you and you family enjoy it every day!

Can I just point out that I am an idiot when is comes to thing like this.

Nick (lrdisco) is doing everything.

If you want to know about investment management, portfolio construction and SIPPs then I can give you my honest opinion. When it come to actuallly building something then you need to talk with Nick. When I have my indoor pool built I would not have anyone but Nick build it.

Anyway, this is the outdoor pool thread!!!

Thanks everyone

That is going to be 2-3 years from now if I ever get planning permission.

Obviously I know there is much more work involved and so I'm prepared to give it an extra week! wink

I'm cringing reading my posts last night about the build spec - I actually made Diane Abbott sound competent!!!

Note to self - don't post on something you know nothing about, especially when you've had a beer!!! drinktypeconfused

Right, that is it until the crane is back Monday morning. I'll post a few pics of the area with some info on my plans later though.

Cheers biggrin

It all adds to our enjoyment of the thread smile

Have you done any artist's impressions of the finished product, with loungers, lighting, plants etc ?
It is all in my head really, but I do know exactly how I want the finished look to be. I'll see if I can get something rendered on a free online design app.

There will be loungers, tables and chairs, well chosen pots and plants. Elegant courtyard feeling opening onto the garden and established trees.

That is quite similar to what I had in mind.

I was going to continue the York stone style paving and therefore go for a similar buff copping stone surround for the pool. What do people think about going for a grey contrast copping?

This is great, your turn to keep it coming guys!

I've also seen pools where they don't place copping stones at all but pave up to the edge - any thoughts on that option...?

I like something like Ebay item 182363874359 - but I suspect it won't go with your look and feel.

Thanks, but I'm going to stick with the plastic rattan all weather furniture I have on the main terrace. I'll upload some more pics.

I like that look, it would set the pool off nicely IMO.
Definitely going with this grey copping now, thanks very much! shoot

It's a quiet day on the build so I think some clever PHers could fill the void and come up with some ideas on MS Paint...
Pretty much exactly like this I'd guess

Very funny!

What type of skimmers does the pool come with? E.g. is it one whare the water level will sit flush with the top or does the water level sit slightly under the top (More traditional)

If traditional.. then go with coping stones, at the very least you will want a bevelled edge.
No it is not flush, the water level sits 8cm below the bottom of the copping stone (or ideally a bit lower if the skimmers and electric cover will allow).

Is there scope to add walls and a roof to this one at some point in the future?
Potentially, but I have a fixed design for the indoor pool - if it ever happens given planning! - and I now really like the idea of having an outdoor pool that can effectively be used as a giant hot tub in winter!

Thank you, I really appreciate that. Nick and his team really deserve the credit though!

Add a Gas Fire Pit. I put one alongside my hot tub and it make a real feature.

That is a very good idea. The only problem would be running the gas supply to it. Maybe a future addition...

Any idea how much power will be required to keep it at hot tub temp in the winter?
No, but I expect I'll be on first name terms with the oil delivery driver before Christmas!

Sorry, there is some work going on today. Fitting the lighting and plumbing to the shell before it goes into the ground...

Not as exciting as the crane, but a development nether the less!

Will you back-fill around the pipes and cables, or build some sort of a service gully(ies) ?
Everything will be backfilled with the exception of the massage jets where we will have a service gully accessed via a disguised cover (the cover will be a continuation of the paving but can be lifted out if needed.

Have to say OP I'm loving this thread.
Despite the fact I haven't room for a pool (40 x 55ft garden it'd take it all up), nor the money for one and especially given I can't even swim this thread has made me quite jealous and I want one now smile
Thanks very much.

The area I am using is 40 x 60 foot, so think again...!

You could get a 15 x 30 foot pool in there very nicely leave 1,750 square foot of terrace/garden space (which is only 250 sq feet less than my pool area).

I know I have a lot of additional main garden, but if I had your size I would seriously consider it. The pool becomes a focal point, especially when lit up at night and you are eating/drinking outside.

Think of it as an investment in your quality of life! wink
