Good friend of mine owns a large removals company, he's been getting panic calls this week from people moving where the removals firm they have booked have been pulling the plug on them the night before the move. He's been backfilling where he can.
This is my concern. Vendor has apparently booked a removal company as their family was no longer able to help. Will be very frustrated if the removal firm pulls out close to the completion date, and the vendor hasn't engaged with us to negotiate an alternative before then (despite us reaching out to them). Our vendors have confirmed they can complete, but have asked if they can clear the loft at some stage following completion, which is something we can agree to. Not sure how they are intending to physically move, but that's for them.
We went back and said - happy with that, subject to an agreement that if you don't clear within three months (subject to good faith extension if still in lockdown) we can dispose of what is left and charge vendors for any reasonably incurred costs. Twenty minutes later, loft can now be cleared on completion.
Weird.

The whole thing is scary as no end in sight really.
We are in a difficult situation as we are buying separate to selling.
Same situation. Had an offer accepted on our forever house just before Coronavirus struck, now wondering if a downward adjustment is inevitable. And we'd be buying high and selling low.We are in a difficult situation as we are buying separate to selling.

I moved today but it was a massive pain. The banking systems were creaking and while my sale completed at around 10.45 it took until 16.30 for my purchase to complete.
Luckily it is only about 1/2 mile between house so I’ve been shuttling about on my own with beds and settees on the roof of my car. Just about finished now and have to try for sleep as I’m up at 3am for work.

I'm slowly getting to the point of exchange and not sure what to do really.
I'm struggling to find a removal company willing to come out and do it during lock down as they know we haven't exchanged yet plus i can't get internet moved over as no engineer is coming out to properties & I need internet to work from home everyday.
Is it a good idea to exchange & set a completion date way in the future when we think the lockdown is over or ask everyone in the chain (only 4 couples in the exchange as our sellers are moving into a empty property) to just wait until the lock down is over & then exchange the first day of it being lifted & then complete a week later.
Also for me i have a 5k early repayment charge which i have to pay up to the 1st August so it's sort of in my interest to delay if i can.
Just wondering if anyone else is in the same position & what they are thinking of doing?

Got a buyer early Jan on our place, offered on a property exactly two months ago, due to exchange and complete same day on Friday.
Apparently funds all present from both sides, property moving into has no onward chain and is vacant already. Have as removal firm booked, and a van just in case, house is only a mile away. But yeh, fairly chilled about the whole thing, wife 26 preg, house is considerably more costly than the flat being sold so hopefully it doesn't fall through the floor straight away, but figure we still need a roof above our heads, and a small flat isn't appropriate long term, so just have to get on with it.

Pregnant wife and you're inviting blokes you've never met and know nothing about into your home when there's a chance they're carrying this?
There's not really any other option, I don't think we're going to come into contact with them though, the whole place will be packed and I think we'll stay well clear of them - i.e. direct them to what needs to be moved, have door open other side and point to where it all needs to be, and leave them to it, I'll insist they're using gloves.fesuvious said:
The other option is to follow MHCLG guidance and delay completion.
As per link above you could still exchange, although it's advised that gets delayed
Not an option sadly, too many moving parts, and a vendor that has significant financial obligation to complete then vs next week.As per link above you could still exchange, although it's advised that gets delayed
My solicitor + company has closed shop. No longer answering calls or emails.Nothing on their website, or on their front door. Nothing.
Bloody awkward situation as we are in the process of coming close to exchange. I don't want to be in the bag for several grand when they do raise their heads above the parapet and we've moved to another solicitor who has decided to work from home.
Estate agent has also gone quiet for the vendor. No longer answering calls or emails.Nothing on their website, or on their front door. Nothing.
I'm going to have to cycle across to the vendor of the property we are buying and politely knock on his door and have a chat at a social distance.
On the upside, my mortgage rate is now so low on a tracker its ridiculous.

What I would say is that its worth escalating if you can.Bloody awkward situation as we are in the process of coming close to exchange. Both my buying and selling agents have been put on furlough, so now dealing with their bosses. Next week both of their bosses go onto it too. Once that happens they're not allowed to touch the sale, so go higher, it might be that one of your contacts has been put on it.
