Kilmahog is nice but needs a wee bit spending, and as you say close to the road. Inveresk nicely done as a house, but really needs more garden for that kind of money for me.https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/145612253#/...

This would do me and Mrs 3500 (she’s banned me from referring to her as Mrs Escort ).
Toppy price, and I’m not sure what we’d do with over 200 acres, but a lovely place nonetheless.

Well at least they appear to have changed the lighting since the last time it was up for sale. Not sure who would part with 2M for it though given what else you can have for that money.
Last time it was on they were asking 3.7M for it... obviously didn't get it.

I really like that, and if I had £2m, I might consider it.
£2m for this, or the same amount for a one bed flat somewhere in the city....
Firstly, at the apparent original price of £3.7m, it would be a nope from me.
At £2m though, it's very compelling, but I know nothing of the area. Which leads me to my question - what makes Torquay an absolute sthole?
As for Torquay, like most coastal towns, avoid the town centre "high street" if possible... but some cracking areas still especially around the edges. They're also rejuvenating the harbour area which will improve it, and should be starting on the pavilions soon, a classic bit of architecture which has fallen into disrepair in the hands of developers, council have bought it back.
Around the harbour and round the front is still great in Torquay, especially in the sun.

I mean, the obvious answer is to build your own private race track/rally stage Toppy price, and I’m not sure what we’d do with over 200 acres, but a lovely place nonetheless.

Living a bit up the road from this it's not where I'd put my money if I had that much, but I don't like church conversions....

As with all towns - Avoid the drunks and druggies and enjoy the rest of the town, especially for the riviera air show in early June.As for Torquay, like most coastal towns, avoid the town centre "high street" if possible... but some cracking areas still especially around the edges. I used to live in Exmouth, but there was Lympstone, Budleigh, Bicton, Topsham, Starcross not to mention the Teign valley, and up to the moors......
Torquay is not where i would invest.

My £3m investment would be largely based on the fact my Mrs grew up in the town and every move we've ever done brought us closer. Any closer to the in-laws would involve them moving in now.
For Scotland it's an expensive town in general. The new Cala houses to the north are coming in at £750k+ yet are like a terrace when you see them in real life.
Much better VFM away from the central belt and the 'royal burgh'
