Is anyone moving now?
Discussion
I just have to be careful that I don't spend all my spare time fixing stuff over the next few years and forgetting to enjoy it. smile
Thats the important bit. I find it a bit overwhelming at times and have lost perspective a bit which makes me sound a bit whiny and ungrateful but I still feel incredibly fortunate to be able to be where we are now but discovering a leaking rooflight on top of everything else when we paid a lot for this place is enough to tip anyone over the edge.

Absolutely agree - my roof leaked 3 months in to ownership of this place, during the first heavy rain we had. Took some of the shine off it, and landed me with a bill I hadn’t planned for, but (fortunately!) could afford even if it meant putting back other plans for the place.Thats the important bit. Despite this, I love my new home - I did spend the next few months wondering what the next thing to break would be, mind you!

Definitely know that feeling. Must admit, first day or two after we moved in, I was having serious concerns that we'd made a huge mistake. Had spent 7 years getting our last house perfect. Everything worked how we wanted it to work and if anything broke, I knew the place inside out so knew exactly how to sort it. Thats the important bit. But you can get too distracted by a great big long to-do list. Breaking it down into small tasks and knocking them down one by one and things start to look and feel rosier. I have to keep reminding myself of that!
Today, I'd ripping our bathroom out and already mentally prepared to uncover a horror show!

I swear to god some solicitors appear to have no case management tools and they only do something when someone emails them and all of a sudden stuff happend and then comes out the woodwork.
I could accept them only doing things when emailed because they’d have sorted this again ago if so, it’s the fact that they’ve been through numerous periods of absolute silence following calls and emails. Gad-Westy said:

We ended up exactly the same, some serious doubt the first couple of days when it was -8 with no heating and a faulty wood burner. Similar to others we then found the mass of dodgy electrics and plumming but we're slowly workign our way through the problems. But you can get too distracted by a great big long to-do list. I just keep teling myself that it's all minor things and it'll be great when they're sorted!
We've been going through the ridiculous 'process' with our sale & purchase since 23rd July.
Solicitors have been telling lies about mortgages, dates when things were sent off, then when caught out and proved to be lying, trying to cover it up with more lies.
People not taking calls, not returning emails etc etc...it's almost as if they don't want to actually get paid...utter imbeciles the lot of them.
But, after all this time and the biggest roller coaster I think I've ever been on....we finally completed yesterday....
In the end, we were forced by a single Solicitor in the chain to exchange and complete simultaneously....it was all rather nerve racking having your entire life loaded onto a lorry awaiting 'the call'....
3pm came and went, chased Solicitors for the 4th time, was told our money had come in from the buyer below and they had in turn sent the money to the Solicitor above..but we could not have access until they confirmed receipt.
Sod that, could have been waiting another hour. Went to the new house, guessed where the previous owner had left the keys....and we were in! 10 mins later had the official 'you can access the property now' call..
By 11pm, we had something that almost resembled a home
Converted Barn, up to date Building Regs, insulated heavily, underfloor heating throughout, edge of a village...with two great pubs....Dream Home

Congrats, that's awesome, the whole process sucks and needs a revamp. We decided to break the chain and just sell up last year and move into rented, the place we are buying is also no chain but we still have had loads of issues with Solicitors, complete this Friday and cannot wait for it all to be over.

Moi aussi.F that for a game of toy soldiers.
Good luck for anyone else getting near exchange / completion....it’s a roller coaster of emotions and weirdly difficult not to get fixated on it!
Has anyone put an ultimatum on exchange? E.g exchange by x date or the price goes up £1k a day...
Our buyers should have been waiting and ready, we went to exchange last week and told they haven’t even signed the contracts in their house as there is still a query on windows cert or something equally trivial after 5 months.

I’m annoyed that I’ve wasted my time hand delivering forms to our solicitors before work so we didn’t slow anything up as the buyers were chasing, to then find out they’re still messing about with window cert questions on their sale 5 months in. The process is so so archaic and broken.
