Just a note about using polythene at the moment with the hot weather, don't!
I checked it after a couple of days and all looked fine but came home another couple of days later last week after a particularly hot day to find all the grass scorched and brown.
Point taken about it getting two hot under the poly in direct sun, I will keep and eye on that. I checked it after a couple of days and all looked fine but came home another couple of days later last week after a particularly hot day to find all the grass scorched and brown.
WIll be using a mix of poly and fleece to keep the birds off, semi shade so might well be ok, but will lift/remove if we get a very hot day.

Locoblade either green spray paint, photoshop, chuck some grass seed down ASAP and or returf should only cost £20 or so of materials.
Cheers yep I threw some more seed down a few days ago and have been watering it every day, there's some green coming back through now so hopefully the estate agent can avoid capturing it in advert photos and by the time we get viewings in maybe 10 days time it will have mostly recovered.ScotHill said:
Our grass was looking pretty green, if a bit long, but now I've cut it there are lots of patches of what looks like dead grass, dry and yellowy brown. I'm assuming the tips of the grass were green but the bits nearer the soil were dry, so I basically just cut all the green tips off.
Is this because I'm not treating it properly, or did I just let it grow too long? Up in Glasgow so while we've had some dry spells it's never been roasting hot this year.
Sounds like the same problem I have (a page back). I'm going to give it a heavy rake and overseed come the autumn and see if that sorts it for next year.Is this because I'm not treating it properly, or did I just let it grow too long? Oh and do a better job of keeping it in check!
8 days since reseed and the first actual rain we've had last night. The grass in the foreground has mostly grown through the top dressing, the rest is new seed.
Another reason for doing it in August is my neighbours tree dropping all it's ste, nothing I can do about it at the moment unfortunately.

Everywhere talks about a small, medium or large garden. Nowhere actually defines the M2 of each of these. So I have no idea about what cutting width I should go for.
If you want nice stripes I would go for either a 14" or 17" cylinder mower I don't think you would need much bigger for your size garden. Check out the Qualcast 35s(14") or the 43s(17") can be found on Ebay
Equally if you're not fussed about strips and happy with a rotary mower most will cut a lawn pretty quick so I don't think it matters, bigger not always better.

I was recommended the Stihl RMA 448 TC which has an 18” cutting width. Seems overkill though. Check out the Qualcast 35s(14") or the 43s(17") can be found on Ebay

I do like the fact that you can use the battery in lots of different tools though. Just not sure if I am more suited to the AK system not the AP system. AP says it’s for large gardens/professional. I’m not sure I’m either...

I have a Stihl chainsaw and strimmer which both use the AP batteries and if they’re anything to go by the mower should be very good.I do like the fact that you can use the battery in lots of different tools though. I bought Mountfield last summer. No problem so far, using it weekly in summer and rarely in the winter. My garden is around 45-50sqm
