I just so happen to be due a new contract with gas and electric. I clicked on this expecting it to be about led light bulbs
So whats the deal with this then?
What do I need to do?
Go to Bulb website armed with last years consumption figures for a quote. If you’re happy with it then use a referral code to get the discount- I’d offer you mine but others on here will be better at the moment (75 quid for you and them) mine is currently 50 quid.So whats the deal with this then?
What do I need to do?
Bulb will pay any exit fee you may incur and you can leave Bulb without a fee at anytime. No need to communicate with your existing supplier as Bulb will do it all and super quick.

I’ll trump you and give 40 quid of mine to Lotus or a charity of his choice
A race to the bottom!I can also do a £50 code, and had a £75 one for a while till it passed, and will certainly invest the money wisely (likely in renovations to edwardian lime plastered walls at the moment) but cant get more involved than that as I already have more than enough going on in life!
But yes, switching is easy. Either using house size estimates, or best, past annual consumptions which you current provider will give you.

Me neighbour sent me his Bulb £75 link - but when I checked the rates on the quote they offered, they were more than he pays (supposedly they only have 1 tariff)?!
For example, his unit tarrif for day electricity is 11.50p/kWh but they offered me 13.43p/kWh.
I’m sticking with PurePlanet.

They only have one tariff, however (and this was new to me too) your rates will vary depending on geographic location with ant provider. That's why you always need a postcode for a quote I guess.
Slightly odd as you say your neighbors, but I guess it depends how close and if you're just over the split line maybe? What rate do you get with their postcode?

Bulb has always been upfront that their tariffs are regional.........For example, his unit tarrif for day electricity is 11.50p/kWh but they offered me 13.43p/kWh.

We're returning to live in the UK at the end of August and have been following this thread and the Octopus Energy thread for when we need to get "switched over". I see that the Bulb is charging 13.587p kw/h for electricity and 3.3705p kw/h for gas whereas Octopus it's 15.1725p kw/h for electricity and 3.1065p kw/h for gas so Bulb is quite a bit cheaper for electricity and a tad more expensive for gas. At the moment it looks like we'll be going with Bulb, at least initially and see how it pans out over the winter with regard to gas usage.
Ah! That's on the "Smart" tariff, only currently available for some older SMETS1 meters.
Note the 31.8p peak price, applicable between 4-7pm which can easily wipe out any savings for many.
Smart tariff only really makes sense if you have storage heaters or are charging an EV overnight. If you cook with electricity the peak rate charge will hurt as well. And bizarrely, the meters that bulb are currently installing don't yet work with the smart tariff, which I'd agree is madness.

ETA: Based on his statement, I think smart tariff is a pretty bad idea for him: It says he's paying 80p/day for 4kWh, so 20p per unit...!

It’s a good ole game
Just FYI - my £150 code (£75 each) expires at midnight tonight so if you want a free £75 you'll need to move fast.
