That's very tempting but I hate buying tools with random batteries that will probably die in a couple of years, meaning the whole lot ends up in landfill.

Anyone else seen the new universal pd nation battery?

Usb chargeable and you can swap the contacts to 9 different brands

Big difference from most aftermarket battery's it's rating is actually higher then it says!

Seems to do ok on torque test channel
Yeh I watched a few videos on it, interesting idea... signed up for the indegogo thing so when it launches I will decide if the price means if I wanna buy in a couple

Interesting. I take it they've not announced pricing? I suspect it will not be cheap.

That’s a bit more like it !

Makita/Milwaukee etc stuff is too ‘special’ with eye watering prices to match and all I’ll need it for is undoing a few nuts.
I've got the Ryobi one after Aging Wheels recommended it. Works brilliantly and being a bargain brand isn't so dear.

I've heard people disappointed because I think they were expecting it to do the job of an impact... Treat it as you would a standard ratchet (minus any additional persuasion from a hammer) and you won't be disappointed.

I admit I don't use it as much as I thought I would - but I might once I sort out a tool trolley.

Depends on what you use it for. I have a tiny torque wrench that I use for things like the aluminium screws in Mercedes magnesium covers. 4Nm IIRC on those.

Bought in 2021 and still going. Was £28, not £27 though.

In response to the impact wrench, it isn't one of those. I use it to pinch bolts up tight and if they need torquing I'll get the wrench out. It's great for awkward jobs, on my VX220 I used it to change the the SC belt tensioner as you don't need to move it to do it up! And it makes under trays a breeze to whizz off.

Less than I thought it would be... there was no price on indegogo but I didn't think to check the manufacturer website....

Cool idea tho, hoy it between different tools then throw it on a PD charger in the car/house n go again after 60/90 mins - would save me needing a makita charger in the caravan when I am away or can recharge down the sailing club etc when down there doing days boat maintenance etc

It seems good from the fact it works well unlike 99% clone batteries
And seems to work better than badapters that I've seen tested

Ok it didn't do well in the torture tests with circ saws etc but seems it may be resolved in a newer version as the cells are more than upto it it seems they are just being safe

Bought a Dewalt Multi tool. How it's taken this long to go without one I'll never know. Such a handy thing. Got into the DeWalt ecosystem a while ago, having been Makita for years but I needed a new impact and the Makita drill was starting to fail so the DeWalts were on offer and work well enough. The Multi Tool though is brilliant. I've also ordered a blower to help with drying the car and a Hedge trimmer on a pole as my trees and hedges are getting out of hand.

Do it!

It's not very powerful but very helpful for undoing something with a lot of bolts - like an undertray, or sump or inlet manifold or something. Break them free if need be, then you can buzz them all off.

Do workbenches count as tools?

Finally finished my new workbench and shelving, after struggling with a cheap bigdug toolless item since moving house 3 years ago. I just have to keep it clear now and not cover it is rubbish.

I’m about to build one. What did you use for the worktop, as was thinking of getting some kitchen worktops?

Oh and on new tools, just got a Wera torque wrench, lovely thing

I used 18mm ply, but most of the strength was in the frame underneath. Yachting varnish to try to keep it fluid safe.

As above sturdy support framing is important, then I used cheaply available 8x2 planks with the intention of putting down an easily replaceable ply top - probably overkill but it's absolutely rock solid.

Ply doesn't make a good work surface, hardboard or MDF is better as it doesn't splinter and the former is much cheaper than ply.
