My folks are in Mudeford - there are a couple down there that you can rent by the day.

I was surprised at how much it costs to buy a shed with a sea view
Most Sandbanks ones are council let but they are still very expensive. Boscombe still have 60% of their pods for sale - £70K originally I believe!

The family had one at Bransome Chimes & one at Sandbanks for most of the 70s. My earliest memories are on the beach & in the Hut cloud9

We were stupid not to keep one on when Grandparents passed on &/ my Aunt emigrated!

Wow, what a build! I remember seeing your drawings in another thread, but had managed to completely miss this one.

Looks fantastic!

I'm just finishing renovating a house (so not close to your full on build), but even I found the decisions you HAVE to make quite tough. Not just on final decoration, but really early things like where you want light switches, sockets etc. etc....all of which you have to choose really early on, but until you start using/living in the house you don't quite know how you use it. And at least I had a house to walk in! You had to do that by drawings!

It's really interesting Tony. I thought I had everything covered until the last week or so when the decisions needing to me made have accelerated beyond belief on some days. I am renting only 5 minutes walk from the build so often will pop up for 20 minutes to see whats going on only to be there for an hour answering questions (read: making things up) and coming back home with a list of things I still need to decide on.

Last week it was what front door (thought I had that nailed until I saw what was actually needed rather than imagined), what sockets and switches (changed due to needing to match with other things I had not imagined), where do you want this, where should that go, how high, how long etc.

It's a fantastic experience but it can be exhausting on days smile

Still, end of March is not far away! The underfloor heating was switched on Monday - that's made a massive difference already, and the kitchen is scheduled for first week of March - and I can now start to dream of what it will be like to actually have a home of my own again.

Wow I haven't popped my head in this thread since the steels went up!

Certainly come on since then and sure it going to be a stunning place to be.

I have a real thing for rendering and wood cladding at the moment so looking forward to seeing some of that.

Ah yes - that rings bells, having everything having to work together!

I remember having to decide the finished surface of all of downstairs a year ago, before I'd decided wall colours, even kitchen cabinets, because it effected the height of the floor and what UFH spec was needed.

With hindsight of course it's easy, but at the time it's really quite challenging and sleepless nights a plenty....and I stress, I wasn't building, just renovating (albeit top to bottom).

Best of luck with the continued work - looks amazing, and most definitely looking forward to seeing the finished results!

We sort of 'lost' a month over Christmas smile

All the dry lining and ceilings are going in right now so the builder is now confident for end March/1st week April wink

Well, let's put it this way, I will be in by then!!

Thanks, but you have people working for you, it's just me and my Dad! I have at least 11 weeks of work left by my estimates, includes building the bed and wardrobes and worktops from scratch though.

I've still yet to finish my lounge, but moved in over Christmas.

Don't underestimate the time it takes to assemble an Ikea 8 drawer chest! Both my dad and I doing it, both of whom handy with a screwdriver, took probably 4 hours for said chest and 2 bedside cabinets.

Well done you! Are you a builder? I'm not sure I would have been able to do what you have (although would love to try).

When I said build I meant make from scratch from wood. Judging by some of the flatpack bits I have come across it may well be quicker to make it outselves rather than scratching our head at "Engrish" instructions!

Ah I see - if you're going the whole hog on drawers and things too, most definitely!

We've done a few bits (kitchen seats, storage box for drum kit) but had to draw the line somewhere simply because it takes us so long to design/build/make/test stuff. we (my dad and I) are ponderers, you see biggrin

I don't think we are the quickest either, but at least that means we (usually) get it right!

Well it seems we are now on the home straight - a lot has happened in the last 6 weeks. I've booked the week of April 14th off from work as that's our moving-in week.

We've now completed all first fix and plastering. All the wood cladding and aluminium fascias arrived this week and the painters started yesterday.

First coat of paint for the living room and kitchen/diner:

The red wall in the hallway:

The first fitting of the aluminium fascias and cladding:

The tiling starts next week. The aim is to finish the kitchen floor by Friday as the kitchen starts being installed on Monday 10th!
