I just flicked to page 1 for the before pictures. I can't quite believe we got here...!
It’s been an amazing journey for us to follow, one can not imagine what a rollercoaster it was to live it!Merry Christmas to you all, especially in your forever home with your beautiful baby

Harry I just thought I'd let you know I used Johnstone paint today when decorating the front room. You're right it's much better than dulux and cheaper than F&B. I went to the counter and said I'd like to match number 34 and the woman knew the exact colour combo and now it's looking great.
I have to admit I didn't take the durable, whipeable matt when she told me it was £75 rather than £45 for normal but looks ace and can only thank you Mr F.
Hope the family are doing well soon! How's the sleep depravation going?

Crown take it a step further. Not only do they match the F&B colours, they satire their colour names. Sarah chose F&B Elephants Breath for our front room. We went to the Crown Paint Centre, asked for their version of it, and were told, 'yes, that'll be Elephants Fart you want' I have to admit I didn't take the durable, whipeable matt when she told me it was £75 rather than £45 for normal but looks ace and can only thank you Mr F.

Haha amazing! Johnstone's version is 4317-g32y ntb34 I don't know about anyone else but edging and woodwork is literally the worst part bit! It was made easier with a new trim brush which made edging a lot easier!

Sleep deprivation is pretty full-on. Especially as we are in Utah, skiing with Lady F's family (American), and so Flash Jr, aka The Sleep Depriver, is jetlagged too.
Some plus sides. One of which was this view, yesterday morning...

Our house is currently being occupied by friends, with their 3 kids and Dachshund. I suspect I'll be needing more of that Leyland F&B mimicking paint when I get back...

I just realised in your posts you mentioned Leyland & for some reason I had Johnstone in my head which is why I went with Johnstone haha. To be fair it was good but i'll take a look at Leyland too.Our house is currently being occupied by friends, with their 3 kids and Dachshund. Hi, what colours are your hallway paints please? -upper/lower
We dont have much natural light, less than you do probably. But like the colours, might see if we can find a farrow and ball, similar shade. We are painting it in a couple of weeks. Might try get the colour mixed up in something cheaper.
Wife and I are keen to do our living room a similar style to yours now as well, thanks for responding on that colour too

Hi Harry,Really nice project thanks for sharing!. Quick question about your kitchen, are you happy about your sink and worktop? Is that solid wood or laminated (engineered) work top? I'm currently about to start a project and was planning to use the similar type of sink but I was strongly advised not to use wood worktop for that, due to maintenance issues in the future.

Hi Mike - the lower hallway is painted Ammonite by F&B. Upper is a wallpaper called "Barbary" by Osborne and Little. Living Room is F&B Green Smoke. Paints all mixed in Leyland, by our local paint shop. Our hallway is also actually pretty dark, and the light Ammonite colour darkens to that mid grey you see in the pics. I would pic a cooler lamp colour than we have to make the space a bit cooler, as the colour works better that way. Lighting is as, if ot more, important than the actual colour you paint the walls, I find!We dont have much natural light, less than you do probably. Good luck - post up the pictures for us renovation fans...

As for the worktop, I really like natural wood, but it takes maintenance. I had a wood worktop with an undermount belfast sink for 14 years in my flat, and it was OK whilst I lived there, as I regularly oiled the worktop and lightly sanded and oiled once a year - takes minutes. However, when I rented it out, the worktop next to the sink suffered as tenants (understandably) don't take care of of it. It now needs replacing. Luckily, wood is neither expensive nor tough to replace.
That said, our last house had a granite worktop. I bloody loved it - I just could not find a stone durable enough (marble is lovely but impractical - I would only buy granite) with the right look for our current kitchen. One day, when I find the right piece of stone, our kitchen island will get a slab. Natural stone is absolutely my favourite surface, as it is basically a work of art in the middle of your kitchen.
This is the piece of Brazilian stone from our last house kitchen island (we renovated this one too, from a shell, but in a very different style to our current home). I still miss that piece of stone. Same sink as the current house...

Have just hunted down this thread after hearing about it on various other house renovation threads. I've just brought up to date my own thread of my renovation, and I find these stories absolutely fascinating! Looking forward to a good read, see you all when I've finished all 21 pages!
Wow, an epic tale indeed...
Firstly, congratulations to the new parents! I hope Miss Flashman is learning to sleep..
And what a place you've created for her to grow up in, it is just beautiful and full of character. I now know why just about every other renovation thread on PH refers to this one!

You've probably heard this before, but your homes are immaculate and your taste faultless.
Indeed. A career in interior design beckons if you ever get bored Harry. Trust me, deal with them every day and some of your installations put some of them to shame.Gassing Station | Homes, Gardens and DIY | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
