That was the plan, but this one came up at the same sort of cost (admittedly more with builders hours)

We've not seen anything of it's ilk so cheap, and just couldn't miss it, and we've been scouring the bay for a year or more for greenhouses.

This as an EG shows you the bargain it is -

Update on the monster greenhouse. Yesterday we started the dismantle, we removed and bought home all the glass, and a third of the frame. To this point

This is a snap of inside of it, prior to any dismantling. None of these are me BTW. The guy in the blue top is the seller, the lady ond the yellow flo top guy are his parents, and tango man is our builder.

I'm pleased (read relieved!) to state that all glass is intact, and all clips and W style glass grips (I don't kow of the correct term to word them....) are present and correct.

We've decided, the two thirds, as per the part dismantled section, is how the green house is going to be constructed on the allotment. This alone is massive, approaching 12x bigger than a regular greenhouse. More than enough to use, without looking comically stupidly big. More in proportion too at 12x32 foot.

The balance of the green house, 1/3 at 12x16, will be used as probably three quarters of the chicken run for our new chicks, 11 chicks and mum. We'll build a front for it (it's front being the back of the 12x32) and attach fox proof wire mesh over the frame. I'll post further as we go, to give a visual, but we will then extend right to meet the boundary of the space that the chicken run is going in. Dig down around the perimeter of it all, installing barriers (be it sheet or thick mesh) to stop fox digging in, and we'll have a completely fox resistant enclosure.

Looking forward, it will be quite something, we'll post further as we progress.

Anyone having any luck with strawberries this year? I'm getting a really poor crop so far and I keep getting mouldy ones - having terrible trouble getting the humidity level down frown

Not surprising with this weather... Must admit I gave up growing strawberries a few years back - rewards didn't justify the space or hassle. Try taking as much foliage as you can from the plants - you need to get air around the fruits and as much light as poss.

Doing strawberries for the first time this year as a bit of fun. They are outside in the strawberry pots. Got my first ones off a couple of days ago which were red and shiny, no issues at all. Not sure how many I should be getting but there are enough for a few desserts with more flowers coming. The lower plants don’t seem to be doing as well as the upper ones.

My sweetcorn have one vertical "trunk" about a metre high and have two further "branches" from ground level which are 600 - 800mm out at an angle of around 25 degrees to vertical.
Do I or should I have taken these off? Will I get more but smaller cobs? Happy with more smaller if they'll all actually fruit. They'll go into stir fry.

As far as I know and given it's grown in huge quantities in fields it's pretty much left on its own to do whatever it does and doesn't need pruning or special attention. The pollination can be disrupted if it isn't outside, more here:

First cucumber harvest. Quite chuffed!

Tasted very cucumbery and not watery like some shop ones, also the flesh was firm almost crunchy not soft.

Probably going to be sick of cucumbers by the end of the summer though laugh

Cucumber harvesting tip!

Instead of picking the whole cuke and letting half of it waste in the fridge, cut the cuke in half on the plant. The bit left on the plant will be fine and continue growing. No waste.

Very nice. I've never had much luck with full size ones so grow the smaller ones.

I've had about 8 off two plants so far. Grown in containers up canes.

There's plenty we're getting on with holding us back ATM, extending and the like. I'm just preparing the base (breeze blocks) for the third that will be the base for the chicken run, and we've borrowed the allotment neighbours 2 stroke strimmer, to clear the back allotment where it will be sited. Said allotment neighbour will likely be roped in to helping us put it up, we've just given them a dismantled regular size ally green house, to butter them up hopefully!

I will post updates when we have progress, the chicks are fast growing, and need their upgrade within the month.

Nice efforts!

To update RE the monster greenhouse. Currently the front third (3 sides of it) is being constructed, using a home made wooden frame rear, to be the basis of our chicken run on the allotment. This needs completing within a few weeks, as they're growing rapidly, and need a bigger home! I'll post pics when done. After this I need to create a separate cockerel run, THEN will begin construction of what will be the 32x12 Greenhouse.

I was thinking of doing a 'our large allotment development' thread. Would any body read it, or is there already a dedicated allotment thread, or is it best to document this on this thread?
