It’s definitely interesting.

9 apartments run as holiday lets would easily generate £300-£500/week depending on spec. The occupancy rate in this area is pretty much 80% without trying. That would give a base gross revenue of £150k.

You could probably build on that with a series of basic additions such as a spot of glamping and upselling activities.

It’s right by the M5 although it’s a bit of a treck from London and the Home Counties which would have an impact.

All in, what springs to my mind is that for the money they are asking it must have been stripped of its maintenance budget in the dying decades of the timeshare and need a lot spending to get it back on track?

Piers Court, Evelyn Waugh’s old place - lovely house, but not the best location, hence cheap:

Another money pit. Interesting architecture but a little too Gothic for my taste. Used to be a prep school, now a timeshare.

Apparently, it appeared in an episode of Dr Who:

Not on a par with some (most) of the houses on the thread, but a 5-bed Victorian villa, stabling, an 11m sitting room and a sauna for £445k....

Please buy it. I'm trying the buy a paddock from the owner's other house and they won't sell me it until they sell this one.
biggrin Lovely big swimming pool.
Oooo, like that place. Just about commutable for me...
There's a lot of cheap property in that part of the world.

A family member recently bought something not dissimilar, on the edge of the Lakes. Divorce sale. Originally on at over £650k, waited, waited, put in a cheeky offer at half that and got it.

On that approach, I might keep an eye on this one smile

Despite the BBC using an interior photo it looks like the exterior of the old courtyard was used.

This house https://www.fineandcountry.com/uk/property-for-sal... overlooking Lake Windermere is very special, however I’m not sure about this particular bathroom:

It would seem a little odd doing your dirty business in what appears to be a sitting room.
Spelling mistake on the renovation plans? An extra H makes all the difference. It looks like that 'stting room' is only decorative as evidenced by the back-breaking position of the bog roll. If it was a working room that roll would be on a stand within easy reach.

Now that's a proper driveway entrance.

And it has a moat. Seems pretty decent value too.

It's only one part of it, it's split up into apartments. You would be buying one of them.

Ah, yeah, makes sense given the size of the property and that it's only advertised as a four bedroom.

Looks like a number of the bedrooms have been divided to create the apartment. £6400 service charge pa focuses the mind, too.

I know that house well. It is just as lovely as it seems to be. Has been available as a deluxe holiday let:

It's a share of the building, with £1,600 per quarter service charge.

Personally, I think that's a great way to live in a magnificent old building, depending on the other owners.

The moat is second on my list of cool things to have:

  1. Is a lighthouse.
  2. Has a moat.
  3. Massive hill climb of a drive.

Not quite in the same league as some of the castles and country piles on here recently, but a lovely little Art-Deco penthouse in a Grade 1 building all for (by London standards) relative peanuts.
