I thought I would hate that. Small dingy dark etc. but it’s actually lovely. ![](https://media.rightmove.co.uk/5k/4317/124209899/4317_CHI220202_IMG_00_0000.jpeg)

Fewer than five miles from me, if my numbers come in that's getting bought instantly.

I went past it on our boat twice on Wednesday evening after having a cheeky half at the Crown and Anchor opposite. The location is absolutely glorious.

And if you get there first, I want an invite to the housewarming!
Anyone ever bought something considered property pawn?
In 2003 I very nearly bought a 2 bed arts and crafts cottage near Stonehaven. Asking price was offers over 60k. At the time I could (just) manage 100k. Seller (old lady) really loved how much I loved the house (interior was like a 1920’s yacht, it was an amazing, albeit small place).
Unfortunately it was then featured in the Sunday Times as property of the week and went for 500k, eek. Good for her, of course, she was a lovely lady.
I’m lucky enough to now have something that would broadly be considered pawn, but my god I fell in love with that place, and was devastated!

This one qualifies, perhaps:

Last estate designed by Lutyens just pre war. Unscrupulous seller was unscrupulous so I walked, having 'won' the sealed bids auction.
So similar outcome, for a different reason![frown](/inc/images/frown.gif)

Perhaps not at the time - but similar I was very close twice to something that would have become pawn. In 2003 I very nearly bought a 2 bed arts and crafts cottage near Stonehaven. First was the only 'acoustic mirror' that'd been turned into a dwelling. Hadn't been touched in some 50 years as the same couple lived in it. I walked away, and someone bought it and it's been essentially a building site for over ten years as they haven't had the cash to do the works. They're living in a caravan and some 20' containers whilst they've those polystyrene block walls filled with concrete as an outline.
Second was a grand old seaside Manor that'd been converted into an 18 bed nursing home. I'd have knocked a couple of the later extensions down and had a massive five bed with each bedroom being a full suite along with an entertainments wing.
Then job change happened and I just couldn't commit the time needed to get it how we'd have wanted.
Very happy where we are now, but the next one will be pawn and it's where I'll live till I'm done.

Not a great picture but many years ago we owned this, a Victorian Merchants House. 20 plus rooms, 4 floors, 5 staircases, cellars and servants quarters - a proper upstairs downstairs house with 10ft ceilings, fabulous original mouldings, servants bells, crystal door handles, victorian tiled floors, a beautifully carved grand staircase and marble fireplaces on one side of the house and plain fittings, secret staircases, cool pantry, butlers room, food prep slab and meathooks in the cellar on the servants side - a real adventure for the time we lived there and a great place to host some wonderful parties. In 2003 I very nearly bought a 2 bed arts and crafts cottage near Stonehaven. This is in the centre of a lovely village just outside Chichester - yet you'd never know it was even there.
Which is quite fitting, seeing as it has Special Operations Executive history!

Ooooof! That is dirty. Very dirty. It looks like for it was sale for £5.8M in 2016 & it was bought for £2.5M in 2018 but unless you can find the original ads it's not clear how the the estate has been divided up in those sales. It looks like the equestrian facility is excluded now. Sounds like a fair uplift but you could see how the refurbishment costs could be several million though !

Ticks all the boxes that one. Does anyone think the staircases look a bit mediocre for the grandeur of the place? Is there a proper big staircase they've not photographed? Did someone say there's a pool but it's not photographed either? If so major failing if the EA. Gassing Station | Homes, Gardens and DIY | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
