Long term oil is gonna be silly, get a quote to lay on gas, it will be less than £300 per month, mine is.
Also, see if you can get a sealant on the slabs for the patio, I wish I had. Have a full on diesel steam cleaner and I get our bloke to steam ours twice per yr and it still doesn't get rid of all the growth but it does spit the grouting in to the pool, if you can seal it and stop the black and green algae it will be worth it.
I'll pass this over to Nick - sounds like a good idea, your thoughts...?Also, see if you can get a sealant on the slabs for the patio, I wish I had. Paving update...
We are going to level out around the tree and lay pea gravel in the square to make it a feature.
As you are over budget, I can help out a bit I think. We are going to level out around the tree and lay pea gravel in the square to make it a feature.
I have half a bulk bag of 20-10.. washed gravel you can have.
All I ask in return is use of the shade under the tree round which the gravel will be placed.
And the pool.
And your beer fridge.
Oh, go on then, and the Aston.
Those electronic sensors are great, I often take a peek at ours, then out of habit get a garden cane out, you know just to check the gadget is working properly....

Could you possibly just round off the corners around the tree - that square's making my teeth itch.
You see, this isn't just your pool, it's bigger than that now
You are right, and therefore welcome to come an do it yourself!!!! It is, after all, our problem You see, this isn't just your pool, it's bigger than that now
Do make sure that they shower off well before they get in though - those Turkish Wrestlers (Midlands Branch) are quite the ones for slapping on the olive oil. They don't know a lot of English, but they do keep saying the name Grit-chin quite a lot - I think it's their personal oiler or something? Let me know if he or she turns up - they really are quite taken with Grit-chin's ability to service them all in quick succession.

I spoke with Derek yesterday about sealing the paving. It is more cost but well worth it long term with the trees over hanging etc. But if your a Yorkshireman like me you would scoff at such luxury and get scrubbing the paving now and never stop.Caddyshack said:

Resiblock is a very good sealant. I have it on my block paved drive and haven't had any weed problems. Not cheap though.Only just spotted this thread but it is easily one of the best on PH in recent years.
You can just tell that every penny was well worth it, you can already see the pleasure it has brought, you can't put a price on that.
On a different note it's refreshing to see a fantastic builder/client relationship, it might only be a 3 week build but it looks like a long term friendship has been forged between Julian and Nick.
Such a refreshing happy thread, well done

Thank you very much. I think everyone has enjoyed coming together on this project and it is the fantastic goodwill all round that has enabled us to do this in such short time frames. You can just tell that every penny was well worth it, you can already see the pleasure it has brought, you can't put a price on that.

I need to post a couple of important photos (and hope that they do not break any advertising rules) for anyone requiring great contractors...
