Heating Oil Price Rocketing

Just seen a 15ppl spike from Your NRG to 82ppl for a January delivery, or 92.58ppl for this thursday delivery.
This is out of kilter with both the local fuel company and boiler juice who are still quoting 68ppl cheapest delivery and 76ppl quickest delivery.
Could be a price spike to do with the large shipping firm's avoiding the red sea, due to Houthis attacks. This is out of kilter with both the local fuel company and boiler juice who are still quoting 68ppl cheapest delivery and 76ppl quickest delivery.

It all depends who is quoting and how busy they are hence why the multiple sites existThis is out of kilter with both the local fuel company and boiler juice who are still quoting 68ppl cheapest delivery and 76ppl quickest delivery.

All this is a bit academic anyway as I ordered last week with Your NRG at 67ppl for a January delivery.

Has anyone ever suspected their delivery is less than claimed? Just had my oil delivered yesterday by yournrg, according to my meter (I have one of the digital, app-based ones) I had 430L in the tank prior to delivery, ordered 750L. I’ve checked the quantity after delivery and it’s showing as 1020L, when it should be around the 1180L mark.
I appreciate the oil sensors are not 100% accurate, but seems like a huge discrepancy. I suspect the company will say they deliver a calibrated amount, can’t be wrong etc etc, so not sure if I have a leg to stand on.
Did they leave a delivery note, that should show exactly what was put in your tank.I appreciate the oil sensors are not 100% accurate, but seems like a huge discrepancy. I suspect the company will say they deliver a calibrated amount, can’t be wrong etc etc, so not sure if I have a leg to stand on.
There is/was a shut off valve at either end of the delivery hose. He'd start off his delivery by opening the valve at the lorry end, then stop the delivery by shutting off the valve at the customer end. That way he'd have a full hose that the customer had paid for (and had been recorded as delivered) which he could then dispose of as he saw fit before the next delivery...repeat all day if necessary. He emptied some of the hose into 5 gallon drums between deliveries. He was careful not to take too much at a time and chose which deliveries to nick from and the customers generally never noticed
A couple of weeks ago, our metal 2,000 litre tank started leaking from a rusty hole in the base :-(
It has now just been replaced with a nice 1800l bunded plastic tank and they managed to save the majority of the oil (I had just recently filled it up of course).
The rest of the tank looked absolutely fine, it was just right underneath in the middle where it corroded. Very difficult to spot from a cursory examination.
Check your tanks before it becomes an emergency like mine!

I don't know if it's still possible with current set up on the delivery tanker, but many years ago an acquaintance of mine drove a tanker and had a nice little sideline going nicking a "few" litres from every delivery.

I'm trying to work out how to empty the oil out of the hose without running more oil out of the tank? There is/was a shut off valve at either end of the delivery hose. Generally they rot from the inside so it's a bit awkward to doI suppose a cheap ebay endoscope might do it
I had a look in mine when I moved it - it had been there for at least 20 years, there was rust at the lower end so I just switched the outlet and raised the other end - that was 10 years ago
What does the PH crystal ball predict the current chaos in the Red Sea will do to oil prices here in UK?
Is that a common route for our oil supplies, or is it only affecting cargo services.
Not sure where the oil we buy in the UK really comes from?
My tank is at approx 40% now so will need to purchase more in the next 4 weeks. Would prefer to pay as little as possible!

I saw in the news that oil prices rose last week due to the conflict https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-67947795 . Hence why I've just topped the tank up with 500l!

It will rise to 70+ppl before tax widespread pretty soon.
OPEC has voted to wind back production and the shipping problem only worsens it.
Buy 500 litres now if you need to guarantee getting through the winter.
Then spot the time in April to Nov when things might fall back for a 1500 litre fill up.
I don't think we'll see 50ppl again, and 60ppl is soon to go.

Plenty of supply and half way through winter. Been fairly mild up until now hence plenty of supply and while macro impacts can influence, supply demand will drive the price. Is that a common route for our oil supplies, or is it only affecting cargo services.

Globally, heating oil prices have been all over the place
Shorter term chart
Big red candle, dropping $5 in the last couple of hours
It could go either way but don't get too caught up in headlines. Plenty of supply right now:
With good supply levels, not a huge deal if some supply takes the long way round, avoiding the hot spots.
I'll just buy as I need it. I don't see big drops or big increases at all this year, outside of a black swan event.

We have two stupid conservatories sapping heat out of the house (One we can shut off, but the other we cannot). We keep the lounge around 18/19C all day and our bedroom similar when we are in there, other than that all the rooms are kept at 13-16C when not in use. (We have fitted a Drayton wiser system so have control of each room)
Seems like a lot.
