I became an Octopus customer by default, as they took over the now defunct GB Energy customer base.
I have just left them now my fixed price contract has ended and have moved to Igloo Energy as Igloo were offering a better deal than the new deal that Octopus proposed.

Agile prices vary slightly for each of the 14 DNO regions.
Good to know.
Thought it used N2EX prices.
Spose it makes sense to add in the costs in each DNO....

Every day is a school day....
N2EX doesnt exist any more - were bought out by Nordpool a few years back.

It will use auction prices though, but adjusted for each region as their supply costs (DUNOS/ non energy costs, etc) are different for each DNO.

I built a little webpage that displays our current unit rate and the price over the next few hours - http://hampton.org.uk/octopus/current/ we leave it running on an old phone in the kitchen.
At the request of a few people on the Octopus forum I've expanded my current unit display gauge to cover all regions: https://hampton.org.uk/octopus/

Spurred on by eWeLink starting to charge for IFTTT usage I've also written a little Node-based script to control my immersion heater. It runs every 30mins and looks at the unit prices either 1hr ahead in early hours of the morning, or 3hrs the rest of the time and waits for the 'best' unit price within that subset before triggering the switch. This seems to be working better than the IFTTT integration which would fire when the unit price was below a set rate, regardless of if a plunge price was approaching.

Is it right on the "energy use" page you can only see 3 days, offset by 4 days? So I only see 25th, 26th & 27th June.

It's becoming quite addictive to keep an eye on things and we're only a week in to it.

I purchased a charging cable for the car from Ohme (£200 rather than £400 for Agile customers) which you can set to automatically charge at different times (eg. limit the cost to say 5p p/kWh). (I know it's going to take a long time to recoup the cost)

I've got a smart switch coming for the immersion so that I can use that instead of gas when there is a negative pricing day/night.

Apart from that we're running as normal (washing machine goes on early hours of the morning so we just use the app to work out whether or not to set it at 2am or 5am). Dishwasher goes on as normal (after 7pm).

The Octopus Watch app is well worth paying for (£1.99).

In the last week our average price for electric has been 0.09 p/kWh vs. 0.1358 p/kWh on our previous bulb contract so a 30% saving

My immersion heater script seems to be doing what I wanted, notice how it waited until the plunge price bottomed out at 3:30 on Monday morning before heating:

It seems like an unlikely route to an early retirement! It's a good job that playing with these things is fun.

Well, yea, but I think you're missing the point!

People are getting paid to use energy now.

Are Octopus still doing the 'free' EV Charger?

In the market for one, but can't see anything on their website or google?

I ordered an Ohme smart charging cable which was half price for Octopus customers (£200 vs £400)

Anyone had any luck in getting octopus to fit a smart meter?
Customer sevice are non committal!
And take a week to respond each time asking stupid questions like is this at your home address?

.. Been trying to get a date for 2 months so far...

I guess all the installers are still furloughed?

Tried getting a digital display for the house for 4 months+, they just say they are not back at work properly, and I’m on the list. Not important really, so happy to wait.

They restarted fitting last week. I'm booked in for mid August.
