I've pretty much decided it's an issue with the base or connections now.. I've replaced various sections and used the AM radio trick all the way round, all appears ok.

Where did you send yours to? I've looked at spares online but for the price I'm almost aswell buying a replacement mower
Sorry missed your query - took it to Kalehurst Garden Machinery, just north of Newbury. Usually beat internet prices too.

Perhaps dumb question but can’t you check for continuity on the ends at the base station just with a multi meter or even more diy with a bulb and 9v battery or similar?
If the board is fried you don’t know what the base station is up to - all you know is that it is telling you there is a break. I put in a small test loop and it went green. Dealer said they sometimes can give a false positive with a short test loop!

Luba up and running today. The software is quite buggy and there are some significant limitations currently.

The unit will only allow connections by BT despite being on the Wi-Fi. This is echoed by other users so not a ‘me’ problem. As it has dried up it’s ok standing next to the mower giving it commands but internet based control needs sorting out asap. There’s no way of knowing the unit status or sending it out to work without being next to it. Compounding this is the schedule option will only allow me to select one day per week which is not any good.

The BT connection appears to be buggy. I set a new map this morning (following it around) and the BT connection started playing up and disconnecting every few seconds and then reconnecting for about 5 minutes. Big problem because I’d have had to start from scratch if it hadn’t fixed itself somehow. I am wondering if it is a bug picking up other BT devices as it only happened near a parked car.

I set it a fairly tough plan to follow with some very rough terrain. According to the app 1700m2 to cut. I watched it for the first 10 minutes and it got itself out of some very ‘stuck’ situations very well so that’s a positive.

A few pics of what it’s been given to do. The area is a mess with a lot of moss. I haven’t done anything with it other than keep it cut because I need to have a 50m trench soak away dug through the middle of the space next year.

I have also ordered some camo vinyl wrap to hide it a bit, not a fan of the white.

They are on sale reasonably often on amazon. I got my Flymo 1200r for £400 in a 2019 Amazon sale. The amount of time it has saved me since has been well worth the extra couple of £100 it would have cost for a lawnmower.

I've kept an eye out but haven't seen anything drop to that sort of price since lock down / the chip shortage.

I'd still need to go out with the strimmer now and again to sort the edging, but the battery powered one makes quick work of the lawn. So it's not such a chore in comparison.. For now!

Next time!

McCulloch Rob S400 currently at a good price on ebay

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/354647856668?mkcid=16&a...

Just ordered one, my old McCulloch Rob 600 has done 5 years of good service but starting to random fault - repaired a few bits on it but I think it's just past its best now and keeping repairing it means cutting the lawn manually whilst waiting for parts which feels so last decade now.

Job for the bank holiday to get the new one up and running...

I’m tempted…. Had to scrap my 1200R a few weeks ago. Good price

Very good price - I bought one of these about 3 years ago for about double that, and ironically have spent much of this weekend extending the loop to make a secondary area for my front garden - wouldn't have bothered if I'd known I could have got another one for that price!

Spotted a 'garage' I quite like when checking the link above - quite expensive for what it is though - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304490586169

Might order in some mesh panel and try and copy the idea - we have two homeless garden robomowers now. One of the jobs for later this year is to extend the mowing area for my old 1200R - which will require some significant rejigging.

It's no real protection for the mower though is it & the water dripping through the stones, soil & mesh could have salts dissolved in it. It's almost worse than nothing even if it does look pretty.

My 1200R is getting bit flakey. Would this be a good replacement? Would it hook up to the same perimeter wire / guide wire?

That price does seem a bit on the low side! And the ebay account looks a bit dodgy - 'McCulloch Official' with only 3 reviews?? Address seems a bit dodgy too.

I see McCulloch is owned by Husqvarns so I'm guessing the Rob400 is a rebadged EasiLife?

I think you'd want to put some plastic under the soil and angle it slightly for run off to the rear. The design would allow me to recess the base into a flower bed.

It seems to be (as are the Gardena units, by the look of things). The Flymo app is better than the McCulloch one, but it does the basics fairly well. Some minor differences in mouldings on the body & basestation, but undertake skin it seems to be the same (I've got a McCulloch and installed my parents Easilife mower, so have used both)

I've been pleased with my S400, but other than having an App (which I don't think the 1200R had) and some minor spec changes (like the McCulloch working at steeper gradients), you probably wouldn't notice much difference between them. You should be able to use the existing wires, although the basestations are different, so you might need to extend the wires if you haven't got any spare where they connect (unlikely, but possible if there is no spare at all).

I think it is so cheap because it is a discontinued model. My 1200R is being temperamental since I got it out of hibernation - it just keeps stopping for no reason. An app would be nice, save having to go out to the mower to change schedules and stuff - I assume that you can do that on the McCulloch app?

Might just get one. Seems a good deal at that price. The Easilife ones are nearly double that.

What is it that determines the mowable area quoted by manufacturers - the cutting width, battery size, or something else ?

Well, my imow 422 continues to be quite useless, or probably more likely those trying to fix it.

Keeps having docking failures when nowehere near the dock.

So far they have blamed a lawn edging strip and an obstacle in the lawn (an old station trolley). Except that they have been that way since installed (by them) and worked perfectly for a year or so.

Having run a workshop, i can quickly identify those out of their depth when up against a fault. Applies in this case.

Anyone good with these? Any suggestions who might be able to fix it, as, clearly, the official agents cant.
