Central Vacuum System
Discussion
We had one in Austria. Positive: it is quiet. Negative: that long bloody hose is a real pain even with suction points in every room. Overall, don't bother. Built a house 3 years ago and instantly decided NOT to install a system at the planning stage. Decided would rather have a laundry chute, now they are cool.
This thread has just prompted be to go out in the garage, remove and clean the filter and attempt to use mine again.
Having just finished using it, the suction is first class, and I've now stored the hose in the under stairs cupboard as opposed to the garage.
I'm going to try and use it again for a month and see if I can fall in love with it.
I've just bought a steam mop yesterday, so am hoping using the central vacum again will negate the need for using a brush prior to mopping. (The dyson is rubbish at that)

Built our house 12 years ago and it seemed one of the must haves at the time. Has worked well and all dust extracted to the attached garage that has the motor and collection 'tub'. Hose can be a bit of a pain and probably wouldn't bother if I did another build, would spend on heat recovery or similar instead.
