Mist Coat - how to and dilution?

I've just had 5 walls plastered. They appear to be fully dry (one is patchy, but i think that is just the finish). My plasterer has advised a 50/50 mist coat.
I have some cheap white Matt emulsion. Can I just use that for the mist coat and then put two coats of paint on top?
Thanks.
As others have said a specialist paint for new plaster is the way to go, I used I have some cheap white Matt emulsion. Can I just use that for the mist coat and then put two coats of paint on top?
Thanks.

But I would imagine the screw fix one is just as good, having done the mist coat route with multiple coats on top the specialist paint is so much quicker.

Does it have to be contract emulsion, even if the walls are dry? The cheap paint we have is vinyl Matt.
Yes.Or use this undiluted.

Just make sure you use some good quality trade paint for your top coats.
Ive just had my living room re-plastered and after applying a mist coat, I went with BnQ Colours paint for the colour I wanted. Big mistake! Their paint is sh!te quality and allowed the metal beading to show through, even after multiple coats. I had to apply a couple of coats os Zinsser BIN to cover the beading, area. followed by four more coats of the BnQ sh!te paint. Its really pissing me off.
This is what it looked like before applying the Zinsser BIN..

Yeah I will be putting a coat of B-I-N around the edging. I guess I will need to do this after the "mist" coat?
I think LeadFarmer struggled due to his choice of finish paint (all sorted now chap?).BIN won't hurt on the beads but shouldn't strictly be necessary. Follow your mist with a decent paint. Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt is decent stuff (get it from your local DDC) and you shouldn't have a problem.
Leyland contract matt at £16 if you buy three at the moment, just mist coated the whole of my upstairs the past couple of days with it in about 50/50 mix. Leyland say only needs 10% water, but im happy to do extra work to ensure a decent finish.
I also managed to get 10% off with trade card and can buy a pre loaded gift card through Mrs BB's work so make an 8% saving there too!
