I'm not going to explain the situation in full, but in a nutshell, it's a house owned by another family member and we've been using combined savings to refurb it. Hence, the budget is finite. The works have gone 25% over estimate and that's not the contractors trying it on, as we've scrutinised everything very carefully.

So, we're literally down to the last few thousand and have to decide on the best way to proceed.

What would you do in the same situation?
I would be tempted to stick my own board up outside for a couple of weeks with contact details and see if anyone bites , you'll not lose anything and if it's obvious there's a renovation going on they'll be prepared for an unfinished house , maybe not quite as unfinished as it sounds but at least there may be some negotiation , but as mentioned , you would probably need a cash buyer .

If there's not really any money to spend on it left, why not just stick on with and agent and see what happens?

I have no idea about the area, or London, other than everything seems to be bonkers regarding houses, but even at £1m, is it not the sort of property some people might use for downsizing? So may have a large pot of cash ready to go and might not need a mortgage, and wouldn't care about taking on the work, on the basis they're paying £1m for something that needs a bit of money spending on it then will be worth £1.2m?

What have the agents said about value if it were finished?

Possible to market it to a developer/invester/overseas buyer if there is room to make a bit on it?

Or try it at auction?
