We don't have a bath, we had it removed and fitted a nice big walk-in shower. If we ever come to sell it's easy to put a bath back in.

We had a new house built 3 years ago. We're a family of 4. We have 2 shower rooms and one bathroom, and the bathroom has a bath with a shower over. It's not been used as a bath in 3 years, but has been used as an extra shower on countless occasions.
I doubt it will ever be used as a bath! Still, nice to have one in case, eh?.... rolleyes

We *should* have put a massive Italian style shower in the bathroom instead, and I kind of regret NOT doing that now, buy hey ho...

I 5 bed detached will naturally be a home with little kids in it at some point.

If you have little kids you need a bath. You won't die with just a shower but have you tried showering a pack of toddlers. It's chuffing hard work.

I like a bath a few times a week. Just start having the odd bath, they're nice and relaxing. Maybe get a big one with water jets and stuff....invite the neighbours round, car keys in a bowl, pampas grass etc etc.

I have sold two houses without a bath, and with no reductions or issues. Like all house sales, your house will appeal to some but not others. Most people like to have showers as opposed to baths, a shower bath is an option but tbh do what you feel is best for you.

If you put in a shower, design it for either option at a later date.

How can you all live without the luxury of an occasional soak.

Coming home on a cold, rainy night it's great to lounge in a hot bath reading a book.

I suppose the main thing would be not to make substantial alteration that would make re-installing a bath very difficult.

Some people do still use them - my missus has a bath every other morning (and a shower in between) and a couple of evenings a week will have a good soak.

Having said that, a family 4-bed house near us just sold straight off and that doesn't have a bath. Indeed it only has one bathroom, there's no en-suite.

I do not recognise any of this.

Baths are uncomfortable. Not a luxury to lounge in.
You have to choose which bit's of you will be warm and in the bath, vs freezing and outside it. Torso in? Legs out. Legs in? Torso out.
They are either too hot, or too cold. The period of time a bath is the correct temperature can be measured only by the finest of atomic clocks.
This is how you read a book and enjoy the support of water:

Not in the poxy bath.

Have you though about putting a radiator in your bathroom?

Not one big enough to heat the air in the room to the same temperature as the bath, so as to avoid the perceived temperature difference. No.

I don't think it's a huge issue when selling. I was quite surprised when house hunting how many we viewed didn't have a bath. I live in a house with no bath now but one will be going back in. I don't bath often but it is nice to have the choice. I have missed it a few times.

If you are refurbishing to live in and enjoy, then do what you want. If selling might happen in 10years time, then a bath is irrelevant now as what looks cool today will look dated then anyway.

We are building a 6 bed house at the moment and the only reason we have one bath in it is due to young kids. Otherwise it would have none as the adults shower. We did, however put in a steam room... smile

Get a bigger bath!

OK, ours is marginal for me but my missus is 5'4" and all of her, apart from her head, fits in the water.

LOL. See note above about hot tub:-)

Decision made, shower it is. We are going to go with a 700*1700 shower tray...so effectively a bath footprint should the need arise to swap at a much later date :-)

Thanks for the thoughts & ideas.

Re did our bathroom a few years ago and decided to put a whirlpool bath in despite SWMBO telling me it was a waste of money. Can't get her out of it, she uses it every day and admits it was one of my (six) good ideas in 42 years of marriage.

Although like most, I shower most of the time, I do love a really good soak in the bath. So much so in fact, I have a free standing bath in my bedroom - it's blissful having a soak in that smile

A family house needs a bath I think, but you can easily swap your walk in shower for a shower over bath if and when you decide to put your house on the market.

See, I have a plan for this. Cage in back garden, hosepipe.

You should see the size of the bathroom in my house. It's about 3m x 1.5m. The sink basin overlaps the bath, and the toilet is against the bath. There is a 16" strip of floor space, which is too small for even a bath mat!

From what I've read, it's a no go for parents with kids as the bath is essential. One even had the council convert the wet room back to one with a bath. Even though I'm more of a shower person, I find the bath is great for keeping my tropical plants happy and thriving during the winter. I think it'll come in handy when I saved up enough to renovate my kitchen to do the washing up.

This is mainly what my bath is used for at the moment. I stand in it to shower and put the washing up bowl in it until my kitchen arrives in 8 days time. I can not wait!!
