OP where in Portsmouth will you be working or commuting to? As said, Hayling Island is nice, but getting in and out across the bridge can be a pain, especially in summer. I'd also look east, Emsworth is a nice town and on the coast, or somewhere around that area. You then have Chichester a short drive away, which is a nice city, good shops and loads to do. The Wittering beaches are close by. All in all a nice part of the world to live.

Gents thanks for the help, exactly what I needed.

It would be Anchorage Road, literally just as you cross onto the 'Island', garages are an absolute must as I need to park my Vantage and Spitfire, plus my daily and my girlfriend's car.

An area with good schools / commuting will be beneficial in order to sell the property on and / or if we decided to stay.

Thanks for all your help, really appreciate it.

I live in Locks Heath. Take a look at locks heath, Salisbury, Warsash and Park Gate possibly Titchfield too.

About 15 mins to Portsmouth and the same into Southampton. 400k buys you 4 bed detached. Good schools, great motorway access, 3 mins to coast, lots of good pubs etc. Happy to give more info if you need it.
Sarisbury? Rather than Salisbury?

I suggest looking further east - Emsworth, Bosham, over towards Chi etc. Much nicer than to the west where its chockablock.
I'd agree, further from Southampton the better. Awful place with no character and impatient rude drivers everywhere. It's like driving in London sometimes.

Ok, Anchorage Road means you are close to Hilsea station which is on the line from Hedge End, Botley, Fareham.

400k will get you something like this in Grange Park which is walking distance to the train station then a direct train to Hilsea: http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...

If you look at the new developments in Boorley Green then there is a bus that runs from there to Hedge End Station as well. Less stressful than having to drive past Fareham on the M27 every day as that is a sticking point.

Or 400k will get you something like this in Fareham which is also walking distance to the station and/or driving distance to work: http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...

Sorry I competently disagree. I work all over the county and Portsmouth is much worse than Southampton in regards to crime, traffic on a weekend, people, things to do. Much more to do western side of the river and nicer too.

Have to say I would avoid locks heath, park gate, hamble, warsash etc. Used to live in warsash and it was a lovely village but they are building so many new houses in the area that it made it a pain getting in and out of the area at rush hour times, It also got gridlocked if there was an issue on the M27 as people jumped off and round. Now live out in Fair Oak but that would be a bit of a pain to get to Portsmouth as a commute. Have friends in Emsworth and that's a nice place although it may stretch your budget a little.

After 25 years in Netley and a further 20 years in Hamble, we left in June, too busy, too much traffic, too many new houses.

Where did you move to? Hamble Lane is bad enough but its only going to get worse with the new developments going on near the Tesco.

I have no issue with the building but the problem is that the infrastructure isn't upgraded along with it. The Boorley Green development and the one next to Manor Farm allegedly covered the cost of the Sundays Hill bypass but the money from Dowds Farm that was meant to go on J7 improvements seems to have been spent on something else.

The lack of an Eastleigh council local plan has also meant that they have no means of objecting to where the builders want to build at the moment.

Its a shame as its such a lovely area. It was the new development near tescos that was the final straw for us. Spent too long queuing on that bit of road as it was and was only going to get worse. As mentioned, not enough investment in roads, doctors, schools etc to support all the extra people frown

Netley isn't too bad - at least you can get in and out without having to use Hamble Lane.

Hamble on the other hand is a nightmare - commuter traffic at both rush hours brings the entire road to a standstill. It's no surprise a local estate agent has reported that, of the two, Netley's property market is the one doing significantly better.

The developers have been queuing up to build on the airfield, land adjacent to Hamble Station, the corner of Mallards Way / Hamble Lane (etc) but, for now and the foreseeable at least, all of those plans have been thrown out.

Yes Sarisbury and Sarisbury green. Salisbury is 45 mins to the west or you could have looked on google maps before questioning it.

I worked in Portsmouth and lived in Waterlooville on the Tempest Avenue estate in the 90's and at the time the location was excellent with good access to the motorway and some cracking country parks nearby to walk and cycle around.

At the time, I aspired to move to a house on the adjacent Ferndale Road estate in Waterlooville as the larger houses there have either good garages or lots of off-road parking for petrol heads. I moved away in the end.

Dependent on where your work is/if you can move further out, I would also echo the idea of Rowlands Castle or Petersfield.

We lived in warsash from 1988 til I retired from the pusser in '97, off Church st. We lived in Stubbington b4 that. As you said, back in the day Warsash was quite separate from LH and nice but the infill made us up and leave.
10/15 mins into Pompey made me laugh. The M27 is akin to the M25 and a slow slow traffic jam every morning and night. Even on my motorbike blasting it, it was 1/2 hr's trip.
How long is the OP willing to spend traveling in/out per day? I would look for something in say Southsea itself.

Thats not true.... I spent 6 months in west africa. I'd prefer to spend a year back there instead of a month in luton.
and have you ever been to Portsmouth?
Unfortunately yes. too many times.

Rowlands Castle is a good shout, some nice pubs in that area and right nextdoor to Stansted House for countryside walks.

Cowes. Isle of Wight. We fell in love with the IOW after spending so much time here when on the boat, so moved over. Its absolutely lovely.

Lack of Eastleigh plan isn't the issue so much as the ego's of EBC. The irony is that if you read all there plans and saved policies they talk about sustainable housing, which means a bike shed and solar panels.... They miss the point completely that smoothering the entire area with poor quality cramped housing stock isnt making sustainable homes that people will be happy in. Its been a 20 year failure.

They will argue that the developer contributions offset this and can be used to good effect, just like changing the bus route and turning circle for Blackthorn surgery...oh no...hang on a moment...that was a massive fk up they shied away from sorting.

Don't tell anyone ... Grammar matters and it is corrected now.

Not much for your money down South;

Home (+3) £400k; http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...

Rowland's Castle (+3) £400k; http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...

Will see how it goes Thursday; it is a pay cut any which way so I am in no rush, other than I don't like Germany.
