Oxford city is peculiar (mental) when it comes to house prices.

The Army is doing the same, loads of brilliant old buildings, mostly Officers' Mess's have been sold off just in the last 10 years.

That raised my eyebrows too - those are the sort of numbers the bigger properties on Woodstock & Banbury Roads were achieving.

Allegedly the house upon which Tom's Midnight Garden was based.

Where's the link for this one?
Tom's Midnight Garden was a childhood favourite of mine, so when this became available I was quite interested.

The agent obviously made much of the connection with the book and, as far as I can remember, said that the property was the author's childhood home. However, I don't think it was. There is a big mill house down the road, where I think she grew up and I think over time the book, reality and history became muddled. I think the author may have bought the house later in life, however.

It's not on Rightmove anymore AFAIk, but here is more info.

Move it across town to Cowley & then see what it's worth!

I have walked past this house on numerous occasions and had it pegged down as my lottery win house.

Imagine my surprise to find it's been put on the market and my even greater surprise to discover it's so f'ing ghastly inside!

They say never meet your heroes dont they.

Perhaps I could remodel with a Euro win........all is not yet lost!
Tarpaulin on the pool is a fking retarded idea!

and several Ferraris
South of France and 1.6 Million Euro. What am I missing? Seems good value for that part of the world.

I like that, and unusually for these sort of places, small no box type stables but a decent sized triple coach-house, decent workshops and 5 bay open car port. That lot could nicely be turned into 6 closed garages and a couple of open bays for the everyday cars without losing the workshop and store. biggrin

That is bloody ace, although man is that a lifetime of collecting (probably very expensive) tat.

Too big for me though. I love the grounds, I love the lake. I'd want to have an orchard, large kitchen garden and so on, but no way would I be able to afford the gardeners you'd need to keep it in order and the cleaner(s) to keep a house that size nice, even if I had the £1.8m purchase price.

Former home of the Parker-Bowleses.

Why so few photo's and even less of the interiors - must need an awful lot spent on it to bring up to a modern standard.
