Had they put the screwdriver in the right place they may have had a chance.

It's worth me adding that if they're coming back it'll probably quite soon , not wanting to scare you but they came back to mine on a couple of occasions within a day to 5 days . I'm guessing the reasoning is you'll not be expecting it to happen again so quickly .
Also it's probably the keys to the BMW they want if they're after a car , itll break down nicely into saleable parts .

They are however quite stupid, what you do is flick the beads up by inserting something in the parting line between bead and frame. Crims - not bright.
There's no way ours would just 'flick' up, they're kind of hooked in so you've got to roll them back from the glass edge, which may be why they were going in where they did. Of course if you weren't worried about noise you could just smash them out with a chisel - but if that didn't bother you, you'd just break the glass.

When my house was broken into the other year the burglars prised the entire frame out of my bay window.and left it on the lawn.

It didn't end there though, they ragged my nearly new (fully installed and working) gas boiler off off the wall and had it away.

We had this, and my wife woke up when a man with a knife peeked round the bedroom door. She screamed and he demanded car keys.

He popped the beading and prizes out the pane. I guess that's what they tried to do hee.

The Porsches made the cut. The BMW didn't.

Everybody willing to get into your garden will just climb over the fence on the left. It wouldn't even be much of an obstacle if it was double the height.

I think I'd be parking on a neighbours drive.

It'a one of those things that no matter how high you build the wall, some *anker will just get a bigger ladder. It's all about layers. Make it a pain to break in and loads of things in the way and that will help. Layers of security, make it a proper hassle to break in as opposed to one really secure thing.

Edit to add, my Dad always used to put a rake in his allotment shed the other side of the door so when you walked in and stood on it you'd get hit in the face. He never locked it and kept nothing of any real value in there but was happy in the fact if someone did break in, they'd hopefully get a smack in the face.

I'm trying to prevent easy removal of the cars, only.

I think it would help if you could spend sometime, and quickly, to give the entrance a tidy up. Pull the weeds, paint the gate. Make it look as if the place is cared for and watched over. Places that look a little tired and unloved psychologically tip off others that it's an easy target. Chances are the person who tried to break in will come back and see if you've done anything. Good luck.

Understood. Park the BMW closer to the gate, leaving only the footpath clear, that way the BMW and the gate have to be removed first before they pull the pork off your plate...

In which case leave it open with the keys in.

Even better! wink

Seriously though: when they'd be able to get the key for the Boxster (for which they probably need to confront you directly), they're equally close to get the key for the gate's lock. That would defer them for 2 to 5 seconds.

Or, alternatively, they would take damage into account:

Fair play for putting his nice new Velar in the way of some uninsured gimps.
